Bidra med feedbackWe were taken to this restaurant by friends who live in Catania. We can not compare it to other restaurants in the area as we were only in Catania for one night, but we certainly enjoyed our visit to the Old Fashioned. It is situated in a wide, pleasant street, full of other restaurants and has a generous outdoor seating area. The style of the restaurant is casual and friendly. The female owner is very approachable and keen to see that you enjoy yourselves. Unlike the previous reviewer we thought the highlight of our meal was the antipasto, which was generous and frankly one of the best we have encountered. The main courses were typical good, simple Italian food like many restaurants and certainly enjoyable.
I have been looking for a familiar place where it was possible to eat great local food and I certainly did find it in this place. Great typical appetizers with great selection and fabulous prices. If you like good food, great service and fantastic price you cannot miss it!!!!! Lucia and Marco are very kind and friendly and make you feel home..... DONT BE STUPID, DONT MISS IT!!!
Anyone visiting Sicily will be aware of its terrific cuisine. This was our last night on the island and we experienced the best meal at Trattoria Old Fashioned . We wondered why it also has American on its sign outside and almost passed it by thinking it might not be an authentic Sicilian restaurant, but its genuine alright! When you find this place (and we know how difficult it is to find street names in Sicily) don 't walk on, go in! We began with the antipasta buffet. It all looked tasty but we didnt go overboard 'cos we wanted to try other things on the menu. We ordered a nona salad, a pasta Norma and a chicken dish. These were all terrific. I even managed a panne cotta at the end. The house wine was lovely and only €5 a litre! The entire meal was great and very good value. You won 't be disappointed, try it!
We spent 3 days in Cantania and ate here on 2 nights!! Food is very good and authenic. Had the local Pasta alla Norma which was beautiful. the jug of local white wine was lovely. The second night we sampled the antipasti it was a bad idea we ate far to much and then struggled with our main course!! The lightly pickled chillied augberine mmmmmmmmmm. The staff are very friendly very little english and we have very little Italian!! but it was fun and we managed. They were so pleased to see us the 2nd night. Highly recommend this trattoria beautiful food and very good value both nights we paid around 20 euro for 2 people.
Unfortunately I had the worst experience when I had lunch here. I ordered the misto antipasto which was self service and there were fewer choices than other restaurant in Catania. Then I had the worst pasta with vongole. I did not taste nothing and they added zucchini that made the pasta much more worth (became very waterly). It is absolutely over priced and you can find better restaurant (for both food and service) in the center of Catania.
