Johnny Baker - CASTLEMAINE

I recently visited this restaurant located in the heart of the city, across from Maxi. It is the perfect spot to grab a quick coffee and some cookies after a shopping trip or before leaving the city. They offer a delicious vegan cookie that I highly recommend, as well as a vegan tart that was tasty but a bit too cold. They also have a variety of cakes, two of which I have yet to try. The coffee here is also top-notch. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. (Updated rating as of April 29th, 2022)

Whenever we pass through Castlemaine on our way to visit family in Central Victoria, we always look for a place to have lunch. There is usually a bit of a line here, but it's still one of the quickest options for a delicious meal. On Wednesday at 1:00, we stopped by and found only one vegan cake available, specifically the green curry tofu. The filling was flavorful and satisfying, and the pastry was perfectly crispy and fluffy without being messy. My husband claimed it was the best vegan cake he had ever tried, although I personally wouldn't go as far as to agree.

I only tried the vegan cake and tofu pumpkin at this restaurant, but they were both quite enjoyable.

This is a cute little bakery at the back of the hotel. It probably used to be the drive through bottle shop, now it is touted as the drive through bakery (although there is not driveway service that we saw). Vegan options are clearly listed and there are a few, including savoury options. Coffees were really good we had both almond and soy milk (separately) in ours. The pineapple cake was amazing with hazelnuts, almonds, pineapple, and ginger moist and delicious the best cake I have had in a long time. We took pies home to have later and they were really good too, although expensive at $7.50 each. Crispy pastry and interesting filling. We noted a couple of tables outside and a few dogs visiting with their owners too. I would recommend stopping by, they're really friendly.

Recently in the main part of the city opposite maxi, this place is the best to take a quick coffee and cookies after shopping or on the way out of the city. they have a vegan biscuits (soo good a vegan tar (was delicious, but a bit too cold) and also a cake and 2 cake I have not yet tried! also the coffee is really good here! updated by the previous review on 2022-04-29
