Black Rooster Bar and Grill - Castlegar

I have always had positive experiences at this restaurant. It is clear that the locals love it, as it is always busy when I visit. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. During my last visit, I ordered the Blackened Cajun chicken with mixed greens and mashed potatoes. The chicken was juicy and the Cajun spice was just right, although a bit too salty and spicy for my taste. The mashed potatoes helped to balance out the strong flavors. I also ordered the Quesadilla with chicken, which I have enjoyed every time I have ordered it. The tortillas were crispy and the pineapple chunks added a nice touch of sweetness.

During my most recent visit, I spent around $200 at the restaurant. The food was mediocre and the service was slow. It took an hour for our meals to arrive and the children did not receive their dessert until about 90 minutes later. Despite the restaurant being busy when we arrived, many of the delays occurred when the dining room was practically empty. I usually enjoy dining at this restaurant, but this last experience was disappointing.

I had hoped to provide a food review, but when I arrived I was immediately seated in a restaurant that appeared somewhat outdated. There also seemed to be a nice patio, but unfortunately we were not permitted to sit there. We waited for 10 minutes without being attended to and, feeling unsatisfied, we decided to leave. It felt as though we were in a pancake house without any staff or pancakes. As we were exiting, I noticed our waitress bringing two waters to the table that had arrived before us.

Excellent food and service!! Our waitress EMILY was the best!!!!! I ordered the classic pizza but substituted the onions for tomatoes. Was so good! They make their dough and sauce in house and I really loved it!! My husband ordered the blackened chicken and it was tender and the spices were perfect! Highly recommend!

None of the staff could explain why its called black rooster. Even though there are tons of black rooster illustrations and images everywhere. Could not reach the owner to get a clue. Great beer on tap, active and friendly staff and bar tender. Busy place with great food. We settled for taste of calamari- by which I judge quality and taste of food. It passed with flying colors. Great place to hangout.
