Il Bettoliere - CASSINO

We visited il Bettoliere this evening on the recommendation of our AirBnB host and we will be eternally grateful. At the end of an eleven week tour of Italy this evening’s meal was certainly the tastiest we have had in all that time. To start our meal the two of us shared the Bruschetta Mista, six pieces of tasty toasted bread each with a different topping and then had difficulty deciding which was the most delicious, concluding it was probably the tartufo and goat cheese, with the caramelised onion coming a close second. For our primi piatti we shared gnocchi alla Bettoliere with porcini, salciccia and tartufo and a plate of mixed grilled vegetables. After that we had no room for secondi piatti though your scribe did enjoy an aged grappa. We also had an opportunity to taste one or two of Chef Gaetano Miele’s desserts which confirmed our high opinion of his cooking capabilities. Taken together with the very simple, but pleasing decor, and the typical reserved Italian service, the food to be found here make this forty to fifty seat ristorante-pizzeria one eatery not to be missed if you are ever staying in or passing through the Cassino area. A delicious meal in all respects.

Many patrons of this restaurant order the pizza. That would be a mistake. The chef has an amazing repertoire of dishes in an incredible number of desserts. The gnocchi was the best we’ve ever had. It was amazingly light. The lemon scallopini was also delicious. The tuna was a different type of tuna than we get in the US. It was incredibly delicious. The two chocolate soufflé was incredible. The semifredo was the best we had in Italy.

We found our way here after a few detours as we searched for a quaint restaurant to stop at on our way to Pompeii. Turned out to a be a lovely dinner facing the distant mountains. We ordered both fish and meat and both were thoroughly enjoyed. The prices were more than fair as well. There is also a little playground for the kids nearby.
