Encantos do Canico

Firstly, note that the location is not as shown on the Trip Advisor Map. It is much nearer the sea, in the same row of shops & restaurants as Habbeas Coppus and Snack Bar Mare.It is a friendly little place with about 8 tables outside, and the same inside. We went there on a wet and windy evening, but were still able to sit outside because they pulled a transparent "side" down, which provided plenty of shelter for the outside tables.The man who runs it is so friendly, and speaks excellent English, and the food was delicious. We went there specificially to try some fish dishes which were on their menu which we had not seen anywhere else - parrot fish (very nice) and stonebass fish (absolutely delicious!), with a glass of wine, and we followed it with the cheesecake which was excellent and came in huge slices. As well as a good selection of food, with prices lower than some of the places in the area, they also serve cocktails. Would thoroughly recommend it. It was the best meal of our holiday (and we had a lot of very good meals!)

A nice bar & restuarant extremely good value and very friendly service. On a one week break been twice since arrival. Limited choice but this is reflect in the price. Wine is either red or white but very enjoyable.

Great food, even better service. Ate there almost everyday, the food never dissapointed. The staff is always friendly and you feel really good there. You dont have to wait long for the food, unless the place is packed, the prices are low for the quality of the food, theres also WI-FI you can access. Highly recommended, will definately eat there again once I am back to Madeira!

Visited Canico Bay in Madeira in September 2014. Found this little bar/restaurant on our first day. What a lovely place. The owners are polite and friendly they cannot do enough for you. The food is lovely and reasonably priced. Try the steak. I don't know how Elsa prepares it but it was beautifully cooked. My husband had the chicken breast which was also cooked to perfection. We returned most days for drinks if not food. I would recommend to anyone to try.

Stayed at the Royal Orchid Hotel and just up the road was the Encantos do Canico. We dined there twice during our week stay. They have a full menu and the food was excellent. The service was good and the proprietor Virgilio and his wife Elsa were friendly and took time to chat to you. We also had a take away which was toasted sandwich with chips. When we opened the chips it was to find slices of potatoes which were out of this world. We would recommend anyone staying in Canico de Baixo that this restaurant is well worth the visit.
