Bidra med feedbackWith my family, we enjoyed our final meal of 2022, gearing up for 2023. The staff was fantastic, the food was expertly prepared and presented (we're in England, after all). I highly recommend trying the Manhattan cocktail, as it was just perfect.
Very nice straightforward afternoon tea priced at just under £40 for 2. Good, simple, well made, fresh sandwiches and scones. Excellent pots of tea, with refills. Friendly/helpful staff, pleasant lounge area. (Let 's be fair the standard of afternoon tea isn 't the same as the big 5 star London hotels, but they will charge close to £160 for 2; this is a quarter of the price and great value).
The food at this restaurant is excellent, and the service from our waiter, Mohamed, was even better. He treated us like royalty. The menu selection is somewhat limited, but there is something to suit every taste.
During our stay at the Doubletree Hotel, we decided to dine at their restaurant located just off the beautiful foyer. The lounge was cozy with a fireplace, but the restaurant area at the front was uncomfortably cold. A fellow diner nearby was bundled up in a big scarf and seemed to be struggling with the low temperature. The appetizers were satisfactory, although we were served a dish we did not order. It took an excessively long time to receive our main dishes - two lamb dishes and one salmon. Unfortunately, my husband's salmon was forgotten and we had to remind two different waiters before it was brought to us, 40 minutes late and missing the green beans we had requested. We were also charged for the green beans and the additional appetizer we did not order. After requesting to speak with the manager, he offered a £15 discount on our bill, but did not rectify the other £12.5 we were overcharged. Despite the decent food quality, the poor service and lack of accountability from the staff made our experience unpleasant. We were not offered any compensation for the inconvenience of waiting over 2 hours for our meal. Overall, we were disappointed with the service and would not return to this restaurant, especially considering it was nearly empty aside from one other table of diners.
Having received a voucher from a friend (from Next) decided on the Hilton doubletree near The British Museum for afternoon tea. I know that there have been loads of negative reviews but I found the opposite! IT was really, really lovely. The setting is a bit more relaxed that most afternoon tea's I've been too, with a bar like atmosphere. Service was very cheery but quite relaxed, less attentive that others but in keeping with the more relaxed setting. However when we did see someone extra tea was prompt or directions given to toilets! The food itself was delicious. Really fresh sandwiches that had delicious fillings. The cakes were just like eating fluffy air! Loads of selection and really tasty. Everything was very fresh and beautifully made. I felt very sick after eating that much!!! Really lovely, not the poshest but definitely one of the best food wise.
