Mercato West - Calgary

I love good Italian food but what we got was very average. I would expect it somewhere else where the prices weren't as high. We got pasta and a couple of appetizers. Perhaps other main dishes are better? Also, the service wasn't wonderful. It seemed like we were judged and scrutinized by the couple of people we dealt with from the moment we walked in. We may try the other more casual side next time but wouldn't go back to that side of Mercato West again.

:We had made reservations for the ristorante side, but due to a private event we were moved to the Pizzevino side. After browsing the menu we ordered the following: Calamari Not good. Cornmeal based batter that didn’t really stick to the calamari. Small portion size. Polpette. Good. It was actually probably the best dish of the night because it didn’t have any issues. Margherita Pizza Ok. But for some reason it felt like eating a pizza you would get from a non Italian chain restaurant. It was bland and didn’t showcase the quality of the ingredients. Lasagna Not good. Very small portion size. When I cut a portion for myself and tasted it, they didn’t heat it all the way. The bottom was luke warm. Service was friendly. No issues. Overall, I was disappointed by the quality of the food. It seemed unauthentic, poor quality and poorly prepared. Based on what we tried, I couldn’t recommend it.

We had reservation at this restaurant. To our surprise, we did not get a table!!! We were seated at a bar… My wife can not seat at bar seat. When we asked the host to be seated at a table, she told us that all tables are reserved… at that time we were offered to eat at the casual part of the establishment. As we were seated the waitress got us some menus, they were slightly different from the fancy side of the restaurant. We also received a menu of wines and drinks, on the back of that menu were additional items that were not on the other menu we got. My wife wanted to have the Halibut dish… the server told us we can not have it, since it is being served only at the other side of the establishment!!!! She checked with the manager and the manager REFUSED to offer this dish to my wife, claiming that the chef is too busy!!! Have we set at the bar on the other side, the Chef would have made it for my wife! The manager was very unaccommodating and very unprofessional! A couple that was seating next to us , reached out to us and said: I can not believe what just happened here!! It is very sad that a person that manages such a good restaurant acts the way this one treated us. The appetizers were very delicious. The main dishes were very tasty and beautifully plated. Very nice portion. The Caesar Salad was mainly KALE and not very good. I would return to this restaurant for the good food , but not for the terrible service of the manager.

It was OK but for the price they're charging should be much better. Service was fine not great, food was OK. For $250 should have been much more. Wouldn't recommend.

This is second visit after a 5 star review first time.food equally great but service lacks big time we made reservations and were on time and seated promptly...didnt think it was very busy for a Sat night. they seated our party of 3 at far end of bar right next to a private party room with screaming kids the whole time we were there. Our appetizers served promptly and were delicious BUT main courses were more than an hour i figure either server forgot to order or chef forgot the order so thus reason for just an average rating last night and one last thing waiter poured $130 bottle of wine like it was water
