The Confiterias are part of the history of the city of Buenos Aires and their subtitle places found friends, lovers, partners to discuss and tango. The Ideal Confiteria, located a few steps from the Obelisco, is proud to show the prestige of its origins (founded in 1912) and its current customer base that includes some of the best milliongueros in the city. This is not so for the small good menu that we went there but more to the picturesque environment and the atmosphere of this almost mythical place called Historic Heritage. The shows are regularly scheduled and, if you are interested, you will find one of the best tango schools in the city.

We booked few hours before going on the phone on a saturday night. They offered a package that included a show and the food glass of wine for GBP. The place was not full. The place is quite nice , belle epoque style....It has a traditional wood bar. The service and the food were not good. You can choose between plates : chicken and steak. The steak was gross and so is the dessert. The enpanada for starter was ok. You also have the option of just attending the show on one of the lateral tables and pay for you drinks. On that night there was a group of women singing. Then couples danced twice for about minutes. I enjoyed that bit a lot. I would not necessarily recommend the place based on my experience. However it seems to be a famous place to go out and there was no tourists only locals.
I had to chance to taste the food in this restaurant during a tango event (dinner and show). They served empanadas, then ravioli alla sorrentina and then flan casero. The food was ok, i would say nothing special. The best way to enjoy the place...is without food but watching a tango show (or attending tango lessons).
