El Barrio - Brook Highland

I had the meatloaf. Amazing, and that's not the norm when I review meatloaf. Went on a friend's recommendation with 4 other friends, all first timers, and all gave 10/10. Terrific food, service, and atmosphere.

Sorry but this place does not represent Mexican food.

Guacamole, salsa, and chips were top notch. You have to pay for everything you get, chips, slasa, even beans and rice. They give you a Greek salad with your food. Greek salad w Mexican, right....the quesadillas were so so. Would not go back even if it was close by. Definitely not a 4.7, 3 at best is what I give it. Went on 4-13-24

Update 4/13/24: There was already a 40 minute wait when we arrived just before 5:00pm on Saturday afternoon. We put our name on the list and went next door for a drink. Just as we finished there, we got the call and went back to order dinner. Service was pretty quick and our food was predictably delicious from the chips salsa to the spicy margarita. I had the chorizo meatloaf, which was really good. My wife got plantain nachos, also excellent. We will keep going back. Reliably one of the best restaurants in BHM. There's a reason it's always busy.

Seriously awesome spot in downtown Birmingham. We were guided here on the recommendation of a local bartender, and she was so right! They were open this Sunday because it is Cinco de Mayo. Absolutely delicious food, wonderful service and a great atmosphere!
