Bidra med feedbackWonderful two night stay, a mini break within our Portuguese holiday to Figueira da foz, quite a long trip but well worth it. We had plenty of time to explore but really enjoyed the sunny afternoon by the pool. All hotel rooms have a fabulous view of the castle and walled city, nice air conditioning, lovely bedroom space and pleasant balcony . It was incredibly hot when we stayed , 34 degrees, the air con worked well and was unobtrusive sound wise. Breakfast was ok, not the star of the show, fresh orange and peach juice, a multitude of cheeses and ham and nice pastries and cakes , fresh fruit available but also tinned which seemed a bit out of place. We had a wonderful meal at the Michelin star restaurant G, superbly looked after by Antonio while his brother Oskar was the brains and talent in the kitchen, a very lovely five course plus 5 taster courses, perfectly cooked and presented together with some wonderful wine selections. There is true pride in what this family are doing and they lead on exceptional team who contributed enormously to such a lovely short stay…. We hope to return
This was a wonderful experience, not cheap but well worth it. We visited in January when it was really quiet and there was only one other table occupied. Staff were very attentive, particularly the restaurant manager who began by offering me a red wine to try on his recomendation which was so delicious we ordered a bottle. First of all we were brought a choice of delicious breads and different olive oils and then there were three separate courses prepared by the chef which were all delicious, although we weren't over keen on the oyster. We both ordered different choices of fish which were beautifully presented and very tasty. After this we were brought a choice of puddings, all faultless. When I revealed that this was our anniversary, they then procuded a cake with sparklers and certificates showing our food choices for the evening plus 2 glasses of sparkling wine. All in all we felt quite special. On the second night we couldn't have managed this again so we say by the wood burner and the manager brought us a selection of cheeses, meats and toast with dipping oils and of course the same bottle of wine we had on the first night.
They started us off with an amouse bouche called Berliner Ball, a light fluffy cake ball filled with creamy cheese, accompanied by a very thin slice of local cured ham an homage to the German pastry of the same name. Then a tiny shrimp ravioli with sugary foam. Finally a small ball of smoked meat, chestnuts and almonds. For appetizer Cavaca e Aipo slipper lobster with slivered chestnuts and celery. Linda's entree' was Vaca Balata e coguhelas de temporad medum rare tournedos of beef with poyaro and seasonal mushrooms. My main was Javali Escorcioneira Feijao Pago de Rola wild boar with black salsify and beans in a spicy sauce. Linda's dessert was pumpkin creme brulee with gelato. Mine was a selection of local sheep's milk and cow's milk artisanal cheeses. All accompanied by Valle Pradinhos Grande Riserva 2015 from Mocedo de Calaveiros region of Tras os Montes: 85% cabernet sauvignon and 15% Touriga Nacional. Intense red color with violet highlights and very long legs, nose of complex red and black fruits, notes of stone, coffee and dark chocolate, vanilla, thyme and sharp black pepper spices. Flavor full bodied, balanced acidity and fine soft tannins well wrapped by the fruit, and a lasting, broad and greedy finish. There was nothing left to do after dinner but return to our room and edit the day's photos, and retire for the evening. The service was perfectly attentive and unobtrusive. The maitre d' generously sent the remains of the cheese board and wine to our room.
A real treat if you're in Bragança — overlooking the old town with a panoramic view of the castle with a truly gourmet fine-dining experience. The only Michelin starred restaurant in the region, G Pousada did not disappoint. From the creative use of ingredients and riffs on traditional food (the savory version of a Bolo de Berlim is a standout! to the friendly and solicitous service from staff and the co-owner, definitely should be on your list! And unlike some ultra-chic restaurants of this caliber, they also offer an á la carte menu in addition to a range of prix fixe options — yet another plus!
Excelente restaurante. Recomendo vivamente !
