Bidra med feedbackContemporary Italian place with average appetizers and great entrées. Recently took a visit on a Friday night where we found the place quite empty. We were initially impressed with their intimate atmosphere and prompt and professional service. However, the first few dishes were a bit disappointing. Shima aji crudo had an overpowering citrus flavor that shadowed the richfattiness of the fish. Similarly, grilled octopus plate had an overwhelming amount of parsley that ruined the overall balance offlavors. Burrata came in a tiny plate, but honey, fried rosemary, and roasted chestnut toppings gave it a nice aroma and flavorthat we liked. Although the transition into the pasta and the entrées weren't as smooth as we hoped, the quality of the dishesthat came afterwards was amazing. Paccheri came with a hefty price tag, but the subtle lobster flavor was a good pairing withthe green onions and the chili flakes. My favorite was the duck confit agnolotti which had a good amount of sweetness andacidity from the fig and the balsamic glaze. Chicken under a brick was also extremely tender, and the nutty toppings and creamypolenta were nice sides to accompany it with. Overall, Bar Mezzana wasn't one of the best contemporary Italian restaurants I'vebeen to in Boston, but I would highly recommend trying their pastas and entrées.
I got a Chicken under a brick and it was really delicious! It didn't seem a lit but by the time I finished I was feeling satisfied. Also got a bellini that was well made. My luck was that I just showed up and there was a spot. Definitely will goback when in Boston again.
The lobster pasta is absolutely fantastic! Pasta cooked perfectly al dente, plenty of lobster that was incredibly fresh and tender, and the sauce perfectly complemented the lobster without being too salty or overwhelming. We also got a burrataappetizer (bread ordered separately) which was also delicious. Fast service, restaurant is quite large and not too loud even atdinner rush.
Food was outstanding. Was surprised there was no chocolate option on dessert menu. In addition, the 4 auto grat for “kitchen team” seemed excessive. Impacted servers tip .
Another outstanding evening at Bar Mezzana. This time we chose their “Roman Trattoria” prix fixe experience, which was not only delicious — served with thoughtfulness and friendly enthusiasm — but thoroughly satisfying. (They kindly accommodated a substitution due to a dietary issue. I think because we had a later reservation on the last night, we were the beneficiaries of open bottles of wine that needed drinking. No complaints! Consistently one of Boston’s best.
