Bidra med feedbackWe stopped in Bomarzo to visit the Park of the Monsters, or “Parco dei Mostri.” When it was time for lunch, after consulting with the locals, our driver suggested Piccolo Mondo, a family-run ristorante. Great suggestion. It was a beautiful day so we opted for the patio. The setting was gorgeous with a beautiful view of the gardens. The restaurant was busy but not crowded. The menu was varied with plenty of home-grown items. We ordered salads and pastas and simple table wines and everything was delicious. In the middle of the meal, Papa came over to show off the porcini mushrooms he 'd just picked. At the end of the meal, we were so full we had to pass on some tempting desserts, but the waiter insisted we have some cookies Nonna had just baked. We couldn 't resist, they too were delicious, and they weren 't really cookies as we might think of them. I 'd call them rugalech (if you don 't know the term, look it up) and they were wonderful. To say we ate quite well would be an understatement. And when it was time to take care of the check, there was a pleasant surprise: it was really reasonable. By the way, turns out the restaurant is a local favorite and not at all an over-crowded tourist spot (let 's see how long that lasts). Given the opportunity, I 'd go back in a flash.
Piccolo Mondo is in the new section of Bomarzo. We went to the old section and couldn’t find anywhere to eat. We asked the locals and they sent us to Piccolo Mondo telling us they had very good food and they were right! First of all when we arrived we found a lovely garden. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t conducive to eating outside. We went in and were greeted by the waiter (owner? who was very friendly. We started off with grilled vegetables which included tomatoes, onions, eggplant etc. it was delicious. The dish of the day was lasagna which was out of this world. Normally I like lots of red sauce. This came with a rose sauce. When you took a bite it was light and heavenly! My friend and I both loved it. This restaurant was probably the highlight of our trip. I would go out of my way to go back!!
We are outside and then relaxed on the nice lounge chairs. The food and the atmosphere are very nice and relaxed, we had nice porcini tagliatelle and lamb chop bbqd.
In a winter evening where everything was closed I found hospitality to eat in this wonderful place! owners very kind people, in hand and make you feel in family, and great food!
