The Fröhliche Jass is located in a funny little chalet a comfortably short distance away from the village church and the grocery store, and it happened to be the only restaurant open on the rather cold November Sunday I was there. However, having no choice in the matter didn't make this place a bad choice - the hosts were welcoming, the decaffeinated coffee was good (and decaff is rather tricky, so yay for this one), and the place was comfortably warm and decorated with a Tschäggätä (the typical carnival figure of the Lötschental), which gave it a rather local flair. Also, there were plenty of magazines to choose from and a heap of crossword puzzles, all of which kept me happily busy until my bus was due.I have no idea what their food is like, but the menu featured the usual regional specialities, i.e. cheese platters, dried meat with rye bread, Chässchnitte (a kind of cheesy toast) and the like.
