Gruener Baum - Bettenfeld

If you weren't looking, you wouldn't find Bettenfeld. A very quiet village, just inside the Bavarian border, about 10 minutes from the amazing Rothenburg ob der Tauber. But I got a recommendation to go here and I can say that it was well worth it....The portions are huge, the food is fresh and, of great importance today, locally sourced. As in, within a few kilometres. The Haxen was freshly roasted and the potato dumplings had clearly been made to order. My son's schnitzel was also superb. Add to that that the service was prompt and prices VERY reasonable indeed. If you're in that area, or even in Rothenburg and motorised, travel out to Bettenfeld. However, it was very busy, even on a November Saturday (which is a testament to its quality as it is hardly a major urban area! so it might be wise to check availability. (P.S. It's great with children too!

Make sure to get a reservation! Everyone and their mom who lives in the Rothenburg area knows this place is fantastic! There are a few vegetarian options for us veggies.. vegan I little more difficult. But this place is really known for it's meat. They...butcher onsite and prepare fresh meals that are delicious . Everyone we have taken her always wants to go back a second time!

My dish was very good. The service could have been better. We went there during the busy Christmas season. I felt the staff was overwhelmed but it was a place worth going to.

This restaurant was just a short distance from our apartment. On the recommendation of our hosts we decided to dine there on our first night as it was local. On that occasion there were three of us and two had pepper steaks and the bill...for the three main course and a non alcoholic drink each was under 35 euros. For the price you may be led to think that the portions were small or the food poor quality however the reverse was true. The portions were large and the meat of very good quality. We were hesitant about returning as we were worried our appetites would not do justice to the meals. Return however we did and enjoyed another tasty meal for an excellent price. I would say, however, don't worry if you don't finish your meal, then the restaurant will provide boxes for you to take away your leftovers.
