Bushrangers Bistro At The Surveyor General Inn

We just finished dinner. The food and ambience were great. It claims to be the oldest continuously licensed hotel in Australia. Get the New York Sirloin or the Fish and Chips. The rump steak was okay but not as good.

Drove down from Sydney for lunch. A sunny day, but cold, We had two mains and wine for $75, which was worth it. I had steak, mushroom and Guinness pie, with veg, fantastic pie, soft pastry top and the meat melted in your mouth. My wife had barra, chips and salad. Both meals were generous . and well worth the price. Order at the counter and it will be delivered and wine, beer and drinks ordered from the bar. The meal was of superior standard and if you want a trip a few hours from the big smoke try Berrima, have a meal and look at the craft shops

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, which added to the overall experience. One of the best aspects of this place is the ambiance—it truly feels like stepping into another world. Much of the original charm remains intact, with the original stonework and woodwork preserved. It felt like being in an 18th or 19th-century pub. I could have easily spent the entire evening chatting with people and sipping drinks next to the fireplace.

The food at this restaurant is excellent, and the atmosphere is lovely. I enjoyed everything on my plate, which included a medium-rare steak, chips, and salad. However, my mother ordered a medium steak, and it appeared to be well done. The waitress mentioned that the chef considers that to be medium. So, if you’re particular about how your steak is cooked, just be aware. Nonetheless, the steak is delicious, and everything else was fantastic too!

I stopped by for a pub lunch while traveling between Sydney and Canberra, and what a charming place it is! The Surveyor General is Australia's oldest continuously licensed inn, built in 1834 using convict labor, and it remained in the Harper family for nearly one hundred years. Interestingly, in its early days, prisoners were held in the cellar of the sandstone inn! The place was lively on a Sunday afternoon, but we managed to order our food at the counter and find a seat in the cozy taproom, complete with a warm fireplace—perfect for a chilly winter day. I ordered a burger and fish and chips, which were delivered to us along with a glass of wine and a ginger beer. Everything was delicious, the ambiance was lovely, and the staff was both professional and friendly. Overall, it was a delightful stop in Berrima, a charming little town.
