Bidra med feedbackWe were in cafe de france twice last week. it is a lunch, only pre-set meal that never disappoints. the team of man and woman is friendly and friendly. the food was both tasty, house made, fresh, plentiful and nothing. we have enjoyed our eating experience both picturesque.
Perfect french cafe for the right deal. we were the only tourist. we sat with the locals. the food is served family style. the menu is limited to the cooking of the day. they know what they do. the salads are fantastic. the chicken court was on the spot. the wee was of course tres bonne. I recommend this place if they want real local mess. I would imagine that this is the place where the michelin judges come to lunch when they want a meal.
This caffe was just what we hoped to experience in France and it was right around the corner of our wonderful hotel, the najeti hotel de la poste in beaune. we saw the caffe when we went back from our tour through the mustard factory....The lunch was prix fixe for 14 euro per person, plus our burgunder wine and served us in family style. it started with our wee, brot and a wooden plate. then followed a bowl of fresh green salad, followed by a fabulous bowl of calf stopper in a rich, brown engraving. next we were served a magnificent cure of local cheese with more brot. one of our favorite moments was, as Luec’, the owner, dessert. a basket with its choice of corneteis cones, frozen juice bars or snicker bars! we had a creepy moment when the men translated the next table, which kind of meat was in a pot as “Bebe’ Moo”. it was so much fun and very delicious! Luec’ and his sister crystalle have a wonderful restaurant. Do not miss it when they visit beaune!
Service was very fast and friendly, and food was good, although there was practically no option. We went with our kids who eat very little (8 and 4 years old) and as they offered no options for kids menu, we ended up paying for 4...adult meals.
We had 90 minutes to go before our 2:30 tour of the Fallot mustard factory a block or so away, so we thought hey, let's try this cute little joint that looks packed with locals. That's exactly what it was packed with French speaking working class...locals enjoying a very inexpensive prix fixe menu. Mom and Pop place: host Loic and his chef wife Christel are members of the Le Payen family which has owned and operated this place since 1980. The congenial, outgoing Loic (pronounced low EEK) welcomed us like we were locals and the whole place felt relaxed and real. The food is respectable and the value is extraordinary. For 13.50 Euros, we got FOUR courses: (1) excellent very fresh salad with lardons, egg and a delicious Dijon mustard dressing, (2) main course of either stuffed cabbage or chicken thigh, both very decent and served with rice, (3) cheese plate with *five* cheeses, and (4) an ice cream bar in our choice of flavors. The wine list is short but packed with great values. We had the 9 Euro pinot noir first and it was perfectly lovely gentle and innocuous but with good flavor. Then we moved up to the 15 Euro pinot and there was a corresponding jump in quality. The wines come not in bottles but in cute little glass pitchers that hold half a bottle, and the glasses are nice and small, perfect for lunch. We had been eating in touristy restaurants for over a week, so to find an unpretentious little family owned joint like this was truly a breath of fresh air.
