Goldener Anker - Bayreuth

Its a smaller ,a little more expensive but full of character restaurant. Old floors and the rest of interior design makes it very unique and cosy. Great beer and small but yummy menu.

Good food, good service and good wine but you can't eat here everyday food portion is generous if you don't want to gain weight...!! Very friendly atmosphere and perfect place to end a beautiful evening.

This restaurant is within the very splendid old Hotel Golden Anker which is a very elegant and historic inn with lots of interesting connections. The decoration of the restaurant itself is very attractive and romantic wonderful wood panelling and pleasant table settings etc....Sadly the food dishes are only reasonable by no means excellent , and the wine list is rather limited . Bayreuth is an attractive and elegant town with the world famous Wagner opera festival taking place for four weeks there every summer . This hotel is perhaps the best in town and the restaurant has the potential to be the best too. Sadly at the moment it is not .

Very good food despite the pretentious and cold welcome. We booked a table for 2 and were eager to sit down at the lovely terrace but this did not seem to sit well with the management plans. From we don 't serve the menu outside , to... it is very nice inside , to are you really sure with an upset tone (like how dare you??? , we still ended up on the terrace as it was 38C (100F degrees and nobody in his right mind would chose to sit inside (no a/c when it is already hot outside...Accepting to forego the menu and do with a limited menu outside we eventually learned that we could order all items of the inside menu a la carte and there was even additional items on the menu outside not available inside !!! Actually inside only the 3-courses-set-menu was available. It turned out very good but all this drama for nothing was a bit surprising. Only downside of the terrace (like any terrace in Germany is that they allow cigar smokers but this was that or the oven-like temperatures.

We were here at this Hotel/ Restaurant for a Mothersday Lunch with three couples. The Atmosphere and the service are great. We enjoyed the food soo much that we are planning a bigger get-together this fall.
