Bidra med feedbackVoodoo BBQ is a perfectly serviceable BBQ place with a bit of a Louisiana flair. They have all your favorite smoked meats, and a good selection of sandwiches. There are a variety of spicy sauces to dress the meats with. They have a good selection of sides as well. Some of these have a Louisiana origin such as the Gris-Gris Greens (which are a lighter choice), the Red-Beans Rice, and of course Cornbread. You can actually have a sides plate if you want, but I personally cannot pass up the smoked meat. So, what is good? My favorites include The Carnival Sandwich (which has a mixture of chopped meats), and the Smoked Wings. They also have a pretty wide selection of burgers, and a Shrimp Po-Boy (useful if you have someone in your party who doesn't want to eat real meat). There are stuffed potatoes that are a great option too... Ordering is pretty easy, one goes to the counter, places one's order, then pays. Go get your drink and sit down with your number displayed and they will call your number or deliver your tray to you depending on how busy they are. A easy no-fuss BBQ meal at a decent price. That's a good option in my book.
Good food and nice people usually add up to a great experience while eating out. This location of Voodoo BBQ fits the bill. I don't usually expect people coming to my table to check on me and take my dishes away at a place like this where you order at the counter. But that's what you get here. Very friendly staff members are always checking to make sure you have what you need. The food is just what you expect from Voodoo- dry BBQed meats (and other dishes) with an assortment of sauces on the table so you can make them how you want them. I recommend a mixture of the spicy and sweet sauces. The prices are a bit high for my taste, so I don't go here too often.
This review is based on a Take Out order. My wife and I ordered some items for dinner last night and we were looking forward to some good BBQ. We knew it was a bad omen when we went to order the brisket platter (which we were really looking forward to) and they said they were out of it. They were also running a special for $2 pulled pork sandwiches, and by the time I got there to order a couple for lunch the next day, they were out of pulled pork also. And that was around prime dinner time. But we went ahead and ordered anyways and got The Carnival Platter, Monster Wings, and 2 BBQ tater, with sides being gumbo, corn pudding, and bbq jambalaya. Gumbo wasn 't great but good. Had a good little spicy kick to it as well. Would definitely order it as a side again if we 're ever back. BBQ Jambalaya nothing special. Jambalaya with bits of the BBQ meat mixed in Corn Pudding one of the better sides we 've had here. Not too wet or soggy like some other places, good texture with the corn bread and corn, and just the right touch of sweetness. The Carnival Platter per their description a mix of smoked meats tossed in our signature sauces I should have known that A mix of smoked meats was code for a mix of all the scrap, dry bits and pieces that don 't make the cut into their platters. It was not good. Think beef jerky reconstituted with a sweet bbq sauce and that essentially what we got. I hate to waste food, so the dry meat I could live with, but that signature sauce that they used was overly sweet and we barely ate half of it. Monster Wings We got half Jerk and half VooDoo Dry Rub. THIS is the only reason why this review would have gotten 2/5 stars. The jerk sauce again was too sweet, barely any spice to it. However the half with the Voodoo seasoning was great! It was crispy, perfectly seasoned with a hint of smokiness. Their ranch based wing sauce that came with it, was also pretty tasty. Those wings would be the ONLY reason we 'd come back. BBQ Tater I got the pulled pork topped baked potato, pulled pork was dry and under seasoned, but the addition of sour cream made it a bit better. However, a few bites into my meal and I was chewing on what looks to be a plastic candy wrapper. That just ruined the meal for me. The subpar meal I could have looked past, and given it another try later on. But the wrapper in my baked potato, ruined any hope. I removed a star just for this...... Overall it was a bad experience, with the voodoo spice rubbed wings being it 's only saving grace. We wanted it to be good, but it just fell short in too many areas for us.
Absolutely love the jerk chicken platter. I just wish the Perkins Rowe location would offer consistency. I eat here at least once each weekend (it's usually very tasty and convenient). But sometimes, like today, the baked beans are so dry they are clumped together into one mushy ball. Picture shows after I tried adding BBQ sauce, but it just made more mush. The cornbread is another added treat, when it's not so hard you have to saw through it. Just a bad day or maybe an inexperienced crew. Owner should pay a little closer attention. The sweet potato side was awesome!
First time trying this place and I was very pleased. This is a half pound of sausage with a side of red beans and rice for about 10$. I definitely plan on going back again to try more items on their menu. I order it to go and walked across the street to sit and listen to some great music on Thursday at Rock the Rowe!
