Bidra med feedbackHere by chance on the way to Altenahr and saw that you can buy and drink homemade wine in this winery. So we drank a glass of wine on the terrace. The wine was very nice and the prices of the bottle fair, so we bought some wine here.
What a beautiful place, surrounded by vineyards: own wine production. You have 4-5 vegan options and more 4 vegetarian options in winter. During the season (probably spring to autumn they will be more or different veg options they say. Very nice service and large portions. Architecture like Gaudi. Deffo is worth a visit at least!
Very good food, all typical German dishes.Great location - surrounded by vineyards. You can either hike to get there or you can go by car. Going by car is quite challanging as the roads are narrow and you have people walking on them. It is however not such a big deal, you will slowly get there :)It's nice to combine it on one day with a visit to a nearby Dokumentationsstaette Regierungsbunker.
Let's clear up the name first - it's either Försters Weinterrassen or Weingut Försterhof. I think the owners need to be a little clearer about which they would like to be called!!This place is really worth finding but it's a challenge, and our Tomtom Satnav didn't find it either. You have to find the Roman Villa in Ahrweiler and go up a rough track that goes up a steep hill. You will see signs for the Hohenzollern Hotel/Restaurant (turn left and go past there) and you keep going past 2 other places and all the way to the end of the road where you find this, the Forester's Wine Terrace (in English). It really is at the end of the road in the middle of nowhere. Visually the place looks simply remarkable, like a tavern from 'Lord of the Rings'. It's inaccessible to most vehicles in bad weather and therefore you should check before going November - March whether it is open (in winter it only opens at weekends and even then this is weather dependent). The surrounding countryside (mostly vineyards) is simply stunning. Service was acceptable and there were several veggie and vegan options, which they were happy to accommodate, and are clearly marked on the menu. They even let us try a vegan sweet flatbread dessert which wasn't on their menu yet, which was delicious. Overall I'd say it's worth at least one visit.
The whole place looks like a mushroom house. The hobbits meet Alice in Wonderland. Pretty quirky. Food is very good, and rather massive. Service is friendly and warm - success did not harm the service quality at all. Would definitely come back - perhaps with more appetite than last time. The cake... is brilliant - just not after a massive Schnitzel.
