Bidra med feedbackI wish I can give negative stars for this. Worst food I ate ever in life. When we entered, waiter suggested us that they have very limited items, we said we are ok with it. They served food in Disposable paper plates, with soup spoons. After 1 hour Ofordering, we got food. We ordered ghee podi idly, they gave idly which is sooo sour without podi, sambar or chutney. I orderedcorn soup and they gave worst veg clear soup. Don?t ever consider going there.
Good place for vegetarian food. They have good interiors and lighting. Seating is spacious but they are possibly low-staffed. Quality of food on the day we visited the place was good. We had ?Chennai Meals? (photo in this review) which wasreally good. Asked for additional ?rasam? because it was really really good. Quantity was also good! Depending upon the timethough you may not get everything on the menu. We reached there at around 2:30 PM(they close at 3:00 PM) and we?re told just theChennai Meals was available but later on got to know Dosa was also there which was not communicated to us when asked theminitially which did not feel right. Chef Arvind came over to our table and spoke for sometime, friendly person and a reallygood chef!
To make this review easy I?ll go in order or the photos and end with an overall service review. 1. Kothu paratha: this is easily the best kothu paratha I?ve had in the United States. The flavor is super authentic and the kuruma side is superb. Highlyrecommend this. 2. Mixed Tandoori Platter: this was a sampler plate featuring cauliflower, paneer, and mushroom. This was muchmore subtle than the other food items we ordered in flavor and not my favorite. We had some left over and when I heated it upand had it again it was much better. 3. Veg Thali: this is your standard South Indian veg thali flavors were was expected andthe selection of items was good. Would recommend for a full meal. 4. Chili paratha: this was also first class chili paratha.Really good level of spicy with crispy paratha cuts. The green pepper was a little undercooked. 5. Onion Rava Masala Dosa: themasala was much better than other Indian places featuring more veggies and spice. The mint chutney paired with this was reallyfresh tasting. 6. Sambar Vada: a Tamil classic this Sambar vada was really good. I would put it second to Saravana Bhavan, itwas only missing some fresh onions. Overall the service was fine nothing crazy. I will say our wait times were much longer thanexpected, but the flavor of the food made the wait well worth it. I suspect they had to make most of this fresh too since thewait was so long (that?s just my theory). I would also just stay clear of some of the North Indian items to guarantee good tasteas this is a south indian place. I give this place a 9/10 for an authentic Vegetarian Tamil restaurant. I would recommend it toother and def will be coming back.
One of the best South Indian Tamil restaurants that I?ve visited in Austin. I don?t think the negative reviews truly reflect the taste of the food that we ate. This restaurant has a wide menu, one wouldn?t find some of the items in any other restaurant. The owner of the restaurant served our table so I could ask questions about the chef. The chef is from India, the spices masala are sourced from the real ?Namma veedu Vasantha Bhavan? in Chennai so the food is as authentic as it can get. Weordered the idiyappam kothu, small onion podi uthappam and chilly parotta. Everything tasted really good. The chutneys were abit cold but tasty. Sambhar tasted just like you taste in any good restaurant in Tamil Nadu. The ambience is good too. We?lldefinitely be coming back!
Food is very good. Definitely undeserving of so many negative reviews going around in yelp. I was very skeptical of trying it after reading the reviews and seeing it was empty when entering but feeling good that i took a chance. Quiet a few items werenot available from the menu, thats why 4 star but whatever was available was good. Tried ghee button idly(sorry no pics as wewere super hungry), masala papad, rava masala onion dosa and malai momos. Sambar was really good; not all chutneys were. Momoswere not typical tasting, but good. Wont hesitate to go there again to try more stuff.
