Bidra med feedback5 stars for getting my order done quick and right. 4 stars because it’s a simple dining area with no frills and offers outdoor dining as well. However, only 2 stars for the food itself. I came with high hopes, but that ended when I opened up the food container… It baffles me why the “Cuban” sandwich does not include the traditional Cuban ingredients it has chicken in it?? Strange! The Latino sandwich is what we ordered since it has the traditional Cuban meats, etc. However, they are very skimpy on the meat! There was a skinny slice of ham and another of pork — the rest of the sandwich was basically bread. Then let’s talk sides… it comes with yellow rice and black beans umm, someone tell them it’s supposed to be WHITE rice with black beans. Besides that, they were just ok nothing tasty here, so I don’t think they do much more than add salt perhaps. Why not just do fries as a side it would be much more in line with a sandwich. To top off getting this wrong, they also give chips and salsa, so out goes the “Cuban” meal I was hoping for. Oh and $15 for a sandwich with two slices of meat is a ripoff! Do I think I know it all no! But, having grown up eating Latin food of all kinds (mom was Cuban, dad was Spanish) and I grew up in L.A. so had a high influence from the Mexican food as well… then I lived in Miami for 30 years where I had even more food choices and flavors.
I’ve been coming to La Fonda a lot. This is decent Latino cafe food. A lot of people think Latin Kitchen means Mexican food, but that’s not really the focus here, though they offer some things since that’s what customers want. My frustration is that we carry out now most often. The salsa here is great, but when we carry out they give very small amounts. I asked for more, and they said this was enough for the number of people and a medium would cost 6. When I objected that the salsa is free at the table, she said “dine in and carry out are different.” Usually I tip 20% whether I dine in or carry out, though I may tip 25% for good service on dine in. So I’ve decided that I will pay for more salsa, but I will just tip 2-3 for carry out. After all, like she said, “carry out is different”. I think I’m going to end up saving on the deal!
Much improved, i updated my rating. Service much improved. Food still very good. Chips are subpar, food overall is excellent.
The restaurant was alright. The food was decent, but nothing particularly stood out. The service was okay, and the ambiance was average. Not a bad place, but didn't leave a lasting impression.
It 's cool to stop hear and have a quick bitw. The service is good and the food is good. Had shrimp tacos with some of the amallest shrimp I have ever seen. I als had a texas margarita that was pre-mixed. So it was lots of sour and not the tequila and orange liquer content one would expecr. I switched it for a premium margaritas which was still pre-mixed with better tequila. Prices are reasonable and it is worth a visit.
