Subway - Annapolis

I have a slow speech pattern and a speech impediment, and unfortunately, the Subway employees found it amusing. One of the workers actually stopped making my sandwich to go to another room, where she pointed at me and laughed while discussing how funny my way of speaking was with a coworker in Spanish. I know a bit of Spanish myself since I’ve worked with underprivileged Hispanic children in my area. While I understand that they might not be accustomed to my speech, this behavior was utterly inappropriate. I tried to brush it off since they were young, but their mockery continued for too long. My husband and I had planned to eat here during our trip to find some affordable and healthy food, as vacation dining often becomes pricey. Instead, we opted to spend a little extra at a local mom-and-pop restaurant, where the staff at least showed genuine care for their customers’ feelings.

I understand a little Spanish, which is ironic given my work with underprivileged Hispanic children in my city. While I know they’re likely not used to my speech patterns, their behavior felt very unprofessional. I tried to brush it off because they were young, but they kept going on about it. My husband and I had chosen this place during our trip hoping for a quick, affordable meal, as vacation food tends to get expensive. In the end, we decided to pay a little extra and went to a local mom-and-pop restaurant, where the staff at least treated us with more dignity and respect.
