Bidra med feedbackThe cauliflower tacos and roasted tomatenkale suppe were quite good, but the best part of our experience in south observed on Saturday the thorn of the early midday crowd. we sat at the bar because there was a 45-minute waiting time for a table at 11:30. the bartenders were very busy, very friendly and much fun. as others mentioned, the few vegan options were good, but limited, and therefore I would not be very often back.
I like south but due to the limited options I only go once in a while
I ordered a Thai peanut bowl and it was very good! Very pricy but so was every restaurant I’ve been to in Alaska. Cute atmosphere, lots of cocktail options.
Second time for breakfast. I would give five star but it is only allowed on a full vegan restaurant. Definitely my breakfast spot now! Quality, service and love. The only combo that truly makes a restaurant work. They have it all.
Overall, I suppose this was technically a positive experience. I dined with two other guests (all vegan table) and we shared a trio of dishes. outside of el green go's [outdoor taco truck], this was easily one of the better dining experiences I've had in anchorage, and certainly the most contemporary in terms of ambiance. I mean this kindly because we're talking about anchorage, alaska but it was akin to a calmer california pizza kitchen inside. vegan options are not many, but what is there is clearly marked and interesting enough, and bonus points for not having to leave out an ingredient, because that is lame in this day and age ! the clear win were the cauliflower tacos crispy cauli, one or two sauces, fresh cilantro, decent tortillas, and affordably priced for two, or an add one additional one for $3 (perhaps you can add on a third if you're sharing? that would be swell). next up was the mushrooms ajillo, which had inviting flavor and were served hot with a piece of high quality baguette. now, on the downside, it's a stretch to say the amount of baguette was enough to split between two people, and it came leaning into the very hot oil the mushrooms and (sparse, in my opinion) chilis were floating in. again, this is alaska and the heat low is typically wanting, and I really can't say the chili part of the dish was more than a mild note and the amount of oil the mushrooms (quartered creminis, I reckon) are served in with certainly horrify the clean-eating vegans out there. our third dish was the herb-marinated spanish olives, and I was borderline mortified to see these were cocktail olives who cares if they were even a product of spain sigh that were flavored with a TON of cumin and enormous cloves of garlic. the flavors were off-putting, and it's an embarrassment to see a real restaurant charge $6 for a bowl of freaking cocktail olives stuffed with pimento I would at best, want in my dirty martini or **** mary, and even then, I was really hoping for a nicer olive. I hesitated to have these taken off the check, but one at our table was into it. overall, sure, I'd go back and get tacos, but I hope no one else but the true standard pimento-olive enthusiast ever order that olive dish. solid microbrews on tap, though priced a bit high
