The Black Boy - Amber Valley

I went for a Christmas lunch at this restaurant today and I have to say I was very disappointed. The turkey dish consisted of one small sausage wrapped in slightly burnt bacon, one roast potato, a small sliver of soggy parsnip, and some mashed potato. It was served swimming in gravy with a side of unseasoned cabbage, carrots, broccoli, chunks of swede, and sprouts. There was no Yorkshire pudding and the gravy was poured all over the plate, which I personally did not like. The Christmas pudding I had for dessert was served with a brandy white sauce that was also poured over it. The worst part of the experience was that my Aunt and I were seated in an area of the restaurant that seemed to be hosting a funeral meal, which felt inappropriate given the festive season. We had drinks, wine, tea, and coffee along with the meal, and the bill came to around £60. Overall, I felt it was very poor value for money and left feeling like we could have had a better meal at a supermarket cafe for half the price.

Last time here was somewhat dis heartened However this Sunday we went back and delighted to say The BLACK BOY is back to its best all clear plates said it all....all jolly and happy... went home FULL and happy Thanks to all

Called in for lunch. Guiness and cider lovely. Ordered chicken onion and Stilton baguette and fish goujon baguette, chips and onion rings Oh dear. The chips and rings were dark brown and the baguettes were so greasy it was dripping of our hands. We left most of it and the barmaid was very apologetic and knocked some money off. Won't be returning

The restaurant was very crowded, but we were able to secure a table in the bar area. With a group of 8 people, I highly suggest making a reservation in advance. The staff were incredibly friendly, the bar had a great variety of drinks, and our food was served promptly. We all left feeling satisfied as the portions were generous and the food was delicious.

Usual standard offering.... tasty... service a tad hit and miss... one big downside was my COLD yorkshire pud everyone else enjoyed their meals.... so just my luck
