Eating bad, not what they expect as a good Irish kitchen, incompetent but friendly waiter. I was a previous parade, it was a typical restaurant with great food, but new management changed the dinge for the worse. still in the restaurant, my court. of migas and “pochechas” was going with the half, it is just bad eating. choose one of the two restaurants opposite the same road and they will enjoy better eating to better trips, although this place now has more beautiful modern tables and ambiente. it is now for tourists who do not really know what they should get.
We had lunch here and the courtyard was fully packed. Most people had the sardines which were grilled on the side of the restaurant. My wife had these too, I chose the Robalo, which was tasty as well. Service was slow, prices were rather low, so value for money.
Looked at this place and Restaurante Convento d'Alter. I mean, physically looked at both. Ended up here because my family didn't want to walk the extra 2 blocks to Restaurante Convento d'Alter, even though I probably would have picked that one if it was my choice (looked fancier, slightly more upscale). Food here was fine. Nothing special, not great, just a decent lunch. Meat (pork and veal) were both overcooked. Salad was very nice. Wine list was decently sized with nice prices. Soup was tasty. Waitress let us try a sampling of local desserts (they call them Old Convent recipes) for no charge. We ordered the Bolo Balacha as well, which was outstanding. A "cake" made of thin cookies stacked with custard creme and cinnamon. Very tasty, with a very light texture. Best part of the lunch. We also got a spot of liqueur as well, Pennyroyal liqueur -- a first for me, very minty. Was fun to try. This was also gratis. As I said, the waitress was very nice and helpful. Restaurant is upstairs, over the bar, just south of the main square in front of the town castle.
This restaurant was suggested by our hotel and we couldn't be happier with the food. Really tasty, inexpensive meals, Nice outside area where you can enjoy the afternoon sun or those hot summer nights. Ended up going to this restaurant almost every day while I was in Alter do Chão.
