China House - Alameda

I order regularly from China House, usually during lunch. I think China House has the BEST Chinese lunch special on the Island. For a price of $11, you get your choice of entree with your choice of fried or steamed rice (no extra charge for fried), individual serving of soup and fried wonton. I LOVE IT! Because the portions are plentiful, I find myself having dinner time left overs, which is sooooo nice, especially with my busy work schedule. I usually order the Mongolian Beef, which is always a hit! Spicy, good amount of veggies, and the meat is so tender. In the past 3 weeks, we've also had the General Tso's Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork and the Orange Chicken. Every single one of these dishes *chef's kiss* Now, I'm hungry and going to order dinner from there right now. YOU SHOULD TOO!

So disappointed to hear that China House closed. does anyone know if any of their recipes could be made available? thinking specifically of beef wonton soup, beef wonton with gravy (soup), garlic chicken and ginger (pineapple) beef...

We love this Chinese restaurant. It's ok the second floor. The interior design is superb. Intricate details makes me feel like I'm somewhere else. Servers are friendly. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, their servers asks before they take plates on your table, which I really appreciate. It's just manners, I think. Although a bit pricey, we still go here because Food is scrumptious. Fun fact: according to the owner of Willow Garden (located on Willow Avenue, Hercules), the chef here is the brother of the chef of Willow Garden.

This place has a great view. It sits on the second floor of a commercial building near a busy intersection on Park Blvd. If its quiet, you can get a window seat and watch the hustle and bustle of Park Blvd. The lunch special here is a fantastic deal. You get a small portion of an entree, two fried wontons, a generous helping of rice, and some ice cream for dessert. They have black tea, but do charge extra for it. The General Tsao's Chicken was ridiculously sugary. The sauce had so much sugar that it hardened on my plate! It literally became some sort of sugarized candy that crystalized. It was like eating dessert. I've never seen a sauce unintentionally coagulate on a plate like that. Aside from that, the food was plentiful and delicious. For an extra fee they will upgrade the white rice in the lunch special to fried rice. The fried rice has little dried chunks of pork which are quite good.

Amazing lunch today. The food overall wasn't salty and came out hot. The orange chicken had huge chunks of chicken breast and wasn't spicy at all. The kung pao was spicy enough and had lots of vegetables and nice chicken pieces. The beef broccoli had a nice amount of sauce and the broccoli still had its firmness after the cooking process. The soup was tomato which had a nice flavor with beef and noodle pieces, vegetables and was very pleasant. Service was quick and the restaurant workers were very friendly.
