Bidra med feedbackWorst chippy tea ever spent ages waiting for it which I don't mind waiting so you know cooked fresh and would be good but omg that wasn't the case sausage was burnt black tasted horrible and chips were also over cooked and black waste of money don't recommend at all.
This chipper has really went downhill from its hey days. Back in the day if you wanted a chipper on a Saturday or Sunday evening you needed be there by 5pm or the queue was out the door, down the street round the corner with queue times of 50-60 minutes. The chipper was that good very popular with many making a 60 mile round trip! Those days are gone! The Bervie Chipper is under new management again. In my last review I generously rated this chipper as decidedly average. This chip shop is never my first choice. However we were hungry and thought we’d try again. The new owners have stripped back the menu (I don’t know when they took over so maybe they were still finding their feet. The fish supper portions were huge (fish a half) the chips were plentiful too. The chips were well cooked (soft fluffy on the inside) the batter was quite crispy and both the fish the chips had a brown colour to them. (Too many chips shops serve really pale chips, still hard on the inside. I would call in again. However prices are getting prohibitive and a chipper supper looks like it’ll just be a treat or for a special occasion.
This visit was an example of never go back. The Bervie Chipper, or The Bridgend Restaurant as it was many years ago, has long held a place in our hearts. For many years it has not been the place in which my Mum worked as a young woman, the place of my childhood, or have the reputation that gave it the title of No.1. However, it could be relied on for a reasonable fish supper. However, it no longer achieves even that. We went in for a sit down fish supper. We found no table service, our supper served as if it was a take out, no metal cutlery, not even a slice of bread or the option of a hot drink. The fish supper was less than mediocre. The Bervie had a far-reaching reputation when it was really good, even before the No.1 status, but it really needs to advertise what it was.
We had a takeaway on our way home from holiday. Both had scampi and chips. It was awful. The scampi was overcooked and the chips were soggy and anaemic. Only ate it as we were hungry but felt like giving it to the seagulls nearby. It was also served in a paper bag!!!?? Never had that before. The Bervie chipper used to have a good name in the area-don't know what has happened to it. Won't go there again.
Food was awful, red pudding was badly overcooked and it's hard to mess up chips but somehow they managed. There was 5 of us eating and not one of us would ever eat thee again,.
