Bidra med feedbackAwesome ice cream, wish they had more flavours as they are all so good! Good service and value right in the village, great for after dinner. Will be back again and again for sure.
The ice cream place in the village. Without the competition, a location in the city would face. It would very simple to cut back on quality, as options are limited in the village for something cooling in the heat and to maximise profits. Not so here, full flavours come out, as only small batches are produced. The strawberry and blood orange sorbets are winners for me. Although that is just my taste. Choices are fairly standard fare with few experiments. Charming character treat. Opening hours are casual. Open only when weather permits a cooling refreshment.
The Peanut Butter flavour is simply the best of the bunch. Big scoops too! Sometime I also get a takeaway milkshake which is also good and not bad at $5.50.
UPDATE 11/02/2017<br/ <br/ I think it 's about time I update my review. It 's no secret that I 'm addicted to ice cream/gelato/soft serve. There are tons of ice creamery or gelato joints in Melbourne but I never fail to return to Hello Gelo at least once a week. Why? Firstly and most importantly, the service is exceptional. Scott is the friendliest guy ever, and he is ever so patient with customers standing there for a good 5 minutes trying to decide what flavours to order and also super sweet to bratty kids who scream loudly and impatiently for ice cream. The latter alone deserves a knighthood. Not only is Scott an all around nice guy, he personally makes all the ice cream from scratch. I have seen him carrying around huge boxes of bananas, strawberries and a medley of other fruits to be churned into yummilicious ice cream. You are assured of freshness and quality here. Moving on to the flavours and texture. The flavours are all on point, and sweetness is just right. Texture wise, it 's the pinnacle of how ice cream should be silky smooth and wonderfully creamy. To keep things interesting, there are seasonal flavours and also special flavours to coincide with holidays taro, nectarine, pumpkin pie, pineapple, lychee, 's 'lime splice, gingerbread, Christmas pudding, strawberry pavlova, and the list goes on. There 's really nothing that 's not done right here. Even the thickshakes are flawless thick, creamy and very generous with the amount of ice cream blended in. What started as a simple search on Google for some Asian flavoured ice cream led me to Hello Gelo and subsequently into a full blown addiction and a weekly 'visit ' to Scott. Who would have thought that I would achieved my simple childhood dream of being friends with the 'ice cream man '?<br/ <br/ <br/ 09/06/2015<br/ <br/ Peanut butter/salted caramel and coconut pandan. So so good. Generous serving size and awesome service. My weekly after dinner ritual. I would live there if I could.
It's been a while since I wrote about Asian-influenced desserts but here it is in the new Horse year. I have been to Hello Gelo many many times but have never taken a single photo!! Too busy choosing flavours, chatting and eating it all before it melts! Some of my favourite flavours here include chocolate orange, vanilla, lychee sorbet, coconut with mango swirl, and lemon sorbet. Real made on premises gelato with real ingredients. Winner!
