Bidra med feedbackLovely location, plenty of tables inside out in the beer garden, friendly staff. The meals looked lovely but I wasn't hungry but had to find room for the orange cointreau gateaux...so glad I did.
The manager neither greeted us or gave us menus. We chose our food and waited nearly 90 minutes. When my “cheesy spinach stilton pie” arrived it was filled with sliced potatoes and one spinach leaf. The other pies were uninspiring. This was the first and last time we will go to this pub.
We went to the Black Horse in Hurdcott for their pie and pint night. A great selection of pies and ciders to choose from. I had the steak and stilton pie and my girlfriend chose the duck and cherry pie, both of which were absolutely delicious. As for the ciders I couldn't choose a favourite from the 4 I tried and there were plenty more i didnt try! Friendly staff and a great atmosphere, we will definitely be going back again.
We try to support local businesses so, having spotted that The Black Horse had a pie night for the Jubilee, we walked the 40 mins from our home in anticipation of some good pub grub. We sat in the garden and ordered our food; sausage pie and mash for me and Exmoor pie for my husband. The food arrived and the member of staff said he would fetch the cutlery and gravy. It took about 5 mins. They haven’t got the service quite right. My mash didn’t look appetising. It was sort of squashed flat on the plate but I poured on the gravy and tucked in. It was cold. Everything was cold; peas, pie, gravy. My husbands chips were hot but everything else was cold. We should have complained but we’d had such a lovely day we just didn’t want to finish on a sour note. My husbands pie wasn’t too bad taste wise but mine was dry and tasteless. Not much sign of onion and no moisture. The pastry was actually ok. Given it was a special promotion we had expected much better! One of the most disappointing meals I’ve ever had tbh. When he went to pay, they tried to charge my husband for the drinks they were included in the meal deal. Probably a genuine mistake but not a great end to a disappointing visit. I would not return and unfortunately could not recommend.
Really lovely lunch at the Black Horse today with friends. Lovely home cooked food and friendly staff. Such a positive change from the previous landlords. Would recommend returning if you were disappointed before.
