Bidra med feedbackWe stayed for 2 nights at the Wedmore Hotel so we ate the complimentary breakfast here. They had some of the freshest croissants I've ever eaten. While it's not a huge selection for breakfast, the food was really good. It's nice to eat on a white tablecloth, gives it a bit of class.
I was hyped for this place as it got great reviews, the menus seemed creative, and the cozy atmosphere was ideal. The atmosphere and menu did not disappoint, but I found the food pretty boring for what it costs. It seems like they had some great ideas for the menu that they handed off to a mediocre cook to put together with ingredients bought from walmart. If atmosphere is what you're going for, it would be hard to beat this place, but I would rather get some more bang for my buck elsewhere.
Closed since COVID, no re-opening, check out Gabriel Archer Tavern also at winery. It is a more casual venue, and only open Friday and Saturdays for dinner but at least that's an option.
I hate to be so picky about restaurants but when they charge you a pretty penny, it is my assumption that they want to be held to such high standards. There were a lot of great things about this restaurant. It's a beautiful location, it's small and cozy but not uncomfortably so, and the service was great. The food, for the most part, was delicious too but not exactly what I hoped for. To start, we shared a Virginia Cheese Board. It was delicious! If that was all I had, it'd be a 5-star review for sure. We also enjoyed a bottle of wine, on the recommendation of our server, and that was a pleasant libation for the evening. For dinner, I ordered the Local Seared Rockfish. It was a lovely dish, I just found the rockfish a bit bland in flavor and I had expected more from it given the creative description and accompaniments (polenta cake, fried okra, buttermilk cream . I wished there were more flavor with the fish, even just salt, to give it a little kick. That was disappointing. For dessert, since no chocolate options were available (a red flag... , I went for the honey pot. Our server described it as a bourbon cream with some house-made granola and peaches on top. Sounded promising, and it was delicious for the most part! Unfortunately, the cream at the bottom of the pot had become more like a jello consistency then a cream consistency, and I'm maybe too sensitive to textures of my food. The peaches were also not ripe (they're out of season and that didn't help. Overall the dessert was delicious in idea, and presented adorably (a little actual honey pot! but I would prefer having it when peaches are in season and the cream is a little creamier. I'm generally not so nit-picky about restaurants but as I mentioned earlier, if they are charging that much I will hold them to much higher standards and they just didn't quite meet them this time. I'd definitely give them another try if we're in Williamsburg again because their menu was very creative and service was great, I just wasn't that impressed on my first visit.
Came here for a fancy date night and really enjoyed it. The winery is very pretty and quaint and the restaurant on the lower flood is charming with only a few tables (probably a max of 15 or so) and a small, every changing menu based on what is in season. Our server was very polite and professional the kind you'd expect at a fancy restaurant that serves beef wellington and fois gras. We ordered a lot of food to start: the Fois Gras (duck liver) which was served with a marmalade of some kind and a honey drizzle was very delicious. The charcuterie board was large and had a variety of items on it with some delicious bleu cheese, pickled veggies, and fabulously buttered toasted bread points. I also ordered a hummus salad that had this fresh made hummus and toasted chickpeas I loved. For entrees I chose the scallops (of course) and my friend chose the filet with potatoes and a sweet potato puree on top that was really light and sweet and delicious. The filet was a very large portion I can't remember the size but it had to be at least 10 12 oz. My scallops were fresh, perfectly cooked (not too salty) and had this delicious risotto, almost tapioca or butterscotch sauce on the side, a shaved radish slice and a breaded and fried pork strip. Dessert looked and sounded OK but we were stuffed so went with coffee to settle the stomach and practically needed to be wheeled outside. Neither of us drink so it didn't happen and I can't comment on that. I can say I'm a fan of small, fancy places with great service, excellent meal pace, and revolving menu options. This is a great place for a date night and they have good wine pairings if you are a wine drinker.
