Bidra med feedbackStar Bakery is located at the food court of Plazas Las Americas in Lilburn. I was up for checking the food court out to eat and explore more Hispanic food options. We were just walking around the food court and saw all the desserts that Star Bakery offered. The tres leches look deliciouis!! Then we saw they had tamales and pupusas!! Yes!! We ordered chicken tamales, cheese pupusas, cheese jalapeno pupusas. I also got this yellow drink that was so delicious. They let us try it and I'm like wow!!! Food came out quickly. Delicious. They had the best tamales we ever had! The pupusas were so delicious too. I am so curious to try their tres leches next time. Big fan. Will come back! 57/2020
I consistently visit this place whenever I can because their food is always on point. Best tamales in GA and much better than Mexican tamales we can get here in the States. My favorite is the Carne Guisada. A total hidden Gem inside a Mall, but well worth it! They should open a stand alone restaurant because it would do well I think.
This place is amazing! My parents are originally from El Salvador so Salvadoran food is something I hold to an EXTREMELY HIGH STANDARD. It 's my favorite type of food so when I heard about this place I had to check it out. The pupusas remind me of my childhood, and to be honest were the only thing I wanted to try since it is a staple food. However, their pan con pollo is also a huge crowd pleaser! I don 't go on yelp much other than to find a place to eat and I honestly don 't even write reviews, but this place was TOO GOOD not to review. The baked goods are also delicious and are made in house. I talked to the owner and she actually was a baker in El Salvador, it all made sense!
The tres leches cakes are absolutely amazing! They remain incredibly moist and soft even the next morning. I will definitely be ordering their cakes for every birthday celebration!
Guatemalan tamales are quite different from the Mexican style I had grown up eating. They are thicker, much moister, and the masa is incredibly soft. I immediately fell in love with this difference, especially after having endured many dry, overcooked Mexican tamales in my lifetime. So, you can imagine my delight when I discovered that the Salvadoran tamales at Star Bakery were very similar to the Guatemalan ones I had loved. **THE FOOD** After my first bite, I went back three days in a row because I just couldn’t get enough of the incredible flavors! The tamales are moist and fluffy, with flavorful masa encasing tender, juicy chicken. The cooks here truly have a magical touch; it’s not just the softness of the masa. I learned that chicken bouillon is traditionally used to season the cornmeal for the masa, which explains the delightful aftertaste. I also enjoyed their Carne Guisada and delicious Fresas con Crema, but I wasn't a fan of the Baleadas due to a sour, almost spoiled taste. My go-to combination is their Corn Tamales paired with Grilled Steak from the nearby restaurant, Villino's. I enjoyed them together as if they were steak tamales, and the flavor combination was simply inspiring—it made me want to dance with joy! On my latest visit, I decided to try the Pupusas after being convinced by two fellow customers in line that I had to experience them. They both recommended the Chicharron con Queso, but I was more drawn to the Cameron con Queso, so I ordered one of each. Both were excellent, but the Chicharron was absolutely fantastic and bursting with flavor! They were spot on with their recommendation! **Ratings:** Elote Tamales (5 stars) Pollo Tamales (5 stars) Carne Guisada (4.5 stars) Fresas con Crema (5 stars) Baleadas (1 star) — I think I just got a bad one! Cameron con Queso (4.5 stars) Chicharron con Queso (5 stars) **FINAL THOUGHTS** Make your way to Plaza Las Americas, stroll over to the food court in the back, and treat yourself to some of the best chicken tamales north of Central America. Just don’t be in too much of a hurry, as they take a little time to prepare. If you’ve ever traveled south of Mexico and tried these amazing tamales, you’ll surely agree with me on their authenticity and delicious taste. BUEN PROVECHO!
