Hersoul Restaurant And Bar - West Haven

We had reservations for Sunday dinner around 6pm. To our surprise, we were the only customers there, which was quite sad. Someone's grandmother or mother probably slaved away in a hot kitchen that same day, when they could have been treated to dinner that tasted just as amazingly good at HerSoul instead (sans hot kitchen). We had a bevy of items off the menu, from drinks to appetizers to entrees to dessert. Everything was properly cooked, well seasoned, and reasonably priced. We tried the empanadas (beef chicken...beef was the favorite). Everything was fresh, even the salad was bright and crisp. It tasted like everything came straight from someone's garden. Some of the entrees were ribs, fried chicken, skirt steak, fried cod, wings, salmon, and shrimp Alfredo. Every person was pleased with their meal. Our service was excellent, as two members of the family waited on us. We always had everything we needed and the service was timely. My family really enjoyed the musical selection during the time we were there! They were playing a Motown medley that transitioned into some of Prince's early work. It was a lovely trip down various points on memory lane for my mom, aunts, and uncle. We almost turned it into a karaoke bar! The wonderful evening was rounded out by the delicious dessert. We opted for banana pudding cake and carrot cake. The banana pudding cake is the way to go! As a baker myself, and an expert in banana pudding desserts, I give them my stamp of approval. Don't skip the banana pudding cake! My family has another Yale graduation to attend next year as well, and Her Soul will definitely be on the itinerary next year too! While I hope this business becomes a popular go to spot so it can stay in business, I hope we don't have any trouble getting in next year!

My husband and I visited this restaurant the day after they had a big party and their inventory was severely depleted so, we tried some appetizers and a few sides. We also had a very informative conversation with Ashley, who was extremely personable and very polite. To say the food was absolutely amazing is an understatement! My husband loved the collards and I usually have a hard time getting him to eat any vegetables. The mac and cheese is on another level and the appetizers were great, as well. We are already planning on returning to try entrees and I will definitely be emailing in the near future to inquire about catering.

The food was delicious! Great service, Great options, Great drinks and music. The fried whiting and collards (with Turkey) were my favorites for the night, but everything was good. I had fried whiting, yams and collard greens with a blackberry bees knees (drink). The hubby had fried snapper with mac cheese and a boubon peach drink. We both enjoyed ourselves immensely. My husband and I will definetly be back soon!!

This is the best soul food and other selections of different cultural food restaurant I came across in a long time. If you are looking to enjoy some good variety of food selections, great atmosphere, great service, wonderful music selection, good drinks, and the best hospitality like someone’s southern roots please do not hesitate and try this place. I am hoping it stays open for a long time and are able to service many more people. I’m glad this spot is around the corner and something to look forward to throughout the week. Even if you are not looking for a huge dinner portion meal and you would like to just try a dessert you would be truly impressed. Thanks for providing wonderful service and amazing food.

Today was the grand opening n I had to stop in and check out this place with a great name like that! I'm sure glad I did. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food!! I am gluten sensitive and they were accommodating in turning a Philly cheese steak sandwich with fries to putting it over a salad instead! the portions are huge!!! Also the buffalo wings were AMAZING! I will definitely be going back simply put... mmmmmm...
