Bidra med feedbackHad a great time playing here! We went early in the morning on a Sunday, course was plenty packed but once I started playing I didn't know it. Pace of play was fantastic, overall course condition was fair to good. Price was a bit high but I chose it knowing that so no lost stars. Lastly cart person was by 5 times during the round, I've never had that great of service before.
I have been searching for a nice course in the Temple Killeen area since moving here six months ago. Nothing local has really impressed me, and I found this course on Google and figured I would give it a shot. From what I have been told, the course fell into serious disrepair several years ago. It was built originally for the Baylor University golf team as a “home” course. The course was sold a few years ago and the new owners allegedly have been trying to bring the conditions up, but they were starting with not much more than the layout, as the course was basically shot.I’ll start with the practice area.. The driving range tee area is immaculate and in terrific shape. However, there were no yard markers, just multi colored bears in the landing area. Without a laser yard marker, it was impossible to know how far you were hitting it. The landing area of the range was uncut and mostly weeds. There was no practice bunker. The putting green was at best, decent with a lot of bare spots scattered throughout the putting surface. All in all, a place to loosen up, but not much else positive to say.The course itself has huge potential. There are six sets of tees to accommodate different skill levels of players. I played the Blue tees and the course came in at just over 6200 yards. The Championship tees are very long, over 7400 yards. The layout has numerous doglegs, several holes with elevated tees or greens and with several water holes. Sand is not overly abundant, but present on almost every hole. Tree lined fairways are present on numerous holes. The issue with Bear Ridge isn’t the layout. With proper care, this course could be something special. They proper care is the issue. While the condition of the course is allegedly better now, there is a long ways to go to justify the $75 green fee. The greens are in fair condition at best. They putted slow and some had areas where you were putting on packed dirt. Fairways were consistent with what you would find in your typical municipal course run by a city. Weeds here, grass there, not awful, but nowhere near excellent. Tee boxes were not good. Some were not level, many had very poor grass conditions and one, a par three hole had a square mat in the middle of the tee box. I can’t speak to the condition of the bunkers, as I was able to avoid them, but my playing partner visited several and seemed to be in good condition with more than sufficient sand.In summary, this could be a really nice course if there is funding to make it happen. Right now, it is overpriced for what you get. I’ll give it a couple on months and see if things are any better.
Beautiful scenery but don't bother bringing your putter. Greens are absolutely horrible. Fairways are ok.
Paid $75 for a weekend tee time at a course that is worth $35 at best. All of the tee boxes were not mown and I even had to hit off a mat on one of them. The greens were very bumpy and filled with weeds. If you are charging that much for a round of golf, there are certain standards you’d expect. None of those were met here. I wouldn’t recommend this course or be back.
Visiting Waco family and played a few courses. We had to hustle due to a pending storm. No interaction from the pro shop just handing card back and keys to cart. Headed to first tee and was concerned about how the course management was going to be. Bare tee boxes surrounded by overgrown tiffs of grass in the fairways. The greens were the worst I've played for poiana covered greens. Dead. We understand if there have been irrigation issues but this is just poor management. Pro shop could have been nicer giving a little heads up or offered discounts due to conditions. The layout is fun and it has a ton of potential.
