Marta Cafe Pantry - Victoria

We visited this restaurant twice because I was really excited to check it out. However, after the first visit, I felt a bit let down. The second visit didn't impress me either. I wasn't a fan of the tuna tataki; it had a seasoning that reminded me too much of Cajun spices. The side dishes were average, but the assorted katsu and crispy tofu were good. Unfortunately, the crust on the Tonkatsu was falling apart. It was crispy on the outside but soggy inside, and the meat's surface was also moist. I really wanted to love this place, but after two disappointing visits, I think I'll have to move on.

Despite its small size and limited staff, KAPPO MARTA provided an exceptional experience during my visit with a group of nine. When I called to make a reservation, the hostess informed me that accommodating such a large party might be a bit tight, but they managed it seamlessly without any inconvenience. The decor was stylish, and I found the color combinations and designs quite inviting. Even with our sizable group, the waitstaff remained incredibly patient, and our dishes were served surprisingly quickly. One notable aspect was the authenticity and high quality of all the dishes, which was a delightful surprise given the affordable prices. I consider this restaurant a hidden gem and would definitely return. 10/10!

I finally got the chance to visit a restaurant I had been eager to try for some time. With high expectations for this well-rated place, I was pleased to find that it lived up to the hype. The small bowls served with the meal featured authentic Japanese seasonings, and I left feeling very satisfied. I would gladly return to explore more of their menu. Since the restaurant isn't very large, making a reservation is advisable.

Edit 4 months after Still a regular patron. Everything is still delicious. They have added sushi and nigiri party platters for takeaway. These should be ordered in advance. YUM! Amazing selection and diversity of dishes. Quality food and great flavour are in the Fernwood Oaklands neighborhood! Very happy to have a lovely spot. The menu is uncomplicated yet has choices for any type of diner (vegan included! We really enjoy the variety of elements which make up the Japanese set meals. The accompanying dishes to the main entree you order rotate regularly. This allows diners to try an assortment of Japanese dishes while enjoying the certainty of their selected menu item. Brilliant. Love the spicy beef, and agedashi tofu! Do not hesitate to stop by for a meal. You will not be disappointed.

Lovely place in a cozy space. Staff are kind and attentive and the food is delicious! We 've always ordered from the 'Set ' menu options, which give you a choice of main plus an amazing assortment of sides to accompany it. Worth going back for, but like, repeatedly.
