AUBERGE DU PONT D'ARC

Stopped here twice on visits to the Pont D’Arc. Given its location opposite the arch it’s a very good lunch stop although beware that it doesn’t open until the stroke of midday. The ratio of serving staff to customers is low so don’t expect fast service but it’s a lovely location to take your time and the staff are friendly and very competent. The chicken ‘cake’ with a rich sauce and the jambon and melon are both excellent light lunches at reasonable cost. There is private parking but we never had any trouble parking in the proximate, free, public spaces so we could enjoy the arch, river and beach (all very well maintained in the National Park).

We arrived in good time to eat, waiting to order drinks which then arrived. Twice asked for menu, kept waiting so asked again to be told they had stropped serving although people who arrived after us got served .l Depended on your nationality. It was only 1.30 pm so could not understand reason for not serving. Found the staff to be very arrogant or completely vacant!! Quick to take your money for drinks!!

Felt so sorry for half of the staff, but unfortenately the dont stand a chance. I have not seen such a disorganized and bad managed restaurant in a long time. We were welcomed at the table, given menu's and then left alone for 15 min. before we could order. Our drinks came fast but for our meals we had to wait a long time. When the food finally arrived, only the order of my dinner companion was brought. Apprently some ingrediënts were not available for my dish so they asked if it was Ok to replace them with other ingrediënts. Of course this was no problem, but usually you correct this before the food is served. Since the waitress guarenteed us it would only take 5 minutes, we did not complain. Instead it took more then 20 minutes before my food arrived and by this time my dinner companion was ofcourse almost finished with his meal because it got cold waiting for my food. Because of the delays when my food was brought out we asked for the bill immediately. After finishing my meal and waiting for another 5 minutes, we still had no bill. After asking for it 2 more times, standing up and clearly showing we where about to leave, it finally arrived. On a side note, the table next to us were finished with their meals when we arrived, and were still sitting at the table with their empty plates when we left.The half of the staff is very friendly, and tries real hard, but because the other half is so incompetent they don't stand a chance. They don't have a clear working structure which results in chaos on the dining floor. The Owner/Manager just stands around and doesn't lift a finger to help his clearly overwhelmed staff. Hopefully this was just a bad day for them because the food was actualiteit Ok for the price, but they got a lot to improve on communication between the staff and service.

A very busy place due to its location near the arch. The menu had a nice variety but the food was so so and we found the house wine a big disappointment. The staff seemed overwhelmed by the crowd and tour groups that come through.
