Bidra med feedbackDelicious food at this cozy restaurant! I tried a variety of dishes and was impressed with the quality. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. The juicy pork buns were a standout and we ordered them twice. The beef and onion stuffed pancakes were also delicious. The pork shrimp and cabbage dumplings were good, but the Pork Zha Jiang Noodles could have been skipped. Overall, a great place to dine.
We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon around noon and found the restaurant to be fairly quiet. It seems that the place can be hit or miss in terms of how busy it is. One positive aspect is that they make everything fresh, which you can see from the open kitchen. We were offered hot or cold tea upon sitting down, and the water I requested was served nice and cold. The menu at Yummy Yummy Dumplings is extensive, offering a variety of soups, appetizers, hot dishes, steamed buns, dumplings, pancakes, noodles, rice congee, and frozen dumplings. I appreciated that the dumplings were all the same price regardless of how they were prepared (boiled, steamed, or pan-fried). We tried the rolled beef pancakes for $8.99, which were cut into four pieces and wrapped in tin foil. The sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste, but the dish was still good. The xiao long bao, priced at $7.99 for 6, were not quite traditional XLB's but were tasty nonetheless. The pork cabbage dumplings, priced at $8.99 for 10, were perfectly cooked when we opted for the pan-fried option. Overall, Yummy Yummy Dumplings is a great little hidden gem for dumplings.
As a Chinese person, I must say that this restaurant is truly exceptional. I've tried other dumpling spots in the area such as Mother's Dumpling and House of Dumplings, but this one surpasses them all! It's a hidden gem for sure, perhaps a bit less crowded due to its location. Regardless, you should definitely give it a try! And did I mention it's incredibly affordable?
A little hard to spot but follow the sign and you will eventually find the restaurant. I went there after lunch hours and ordered a vegetarian dumplings and onion pancakes. The dumplings were very satisfactory but not so much the pancakes. The service was fast and friendly.
I am a longtime fan of dumplings, especially Mother's Dumplings on Spadina, so when I heard that this hidden gem was as good, if not better, it required a visit.<br/ <br/ The verdict? Well, the dumplings are pretty amazing, perhaps even slightly better than Mother's Dumplings. This was certainly the case for the Mutton and carrot steamed dumplings, which were easily the best dumpling I've had either here or in China.<br/ This is also likely do the the fact that the owners never make a dumpling before it's ordered, so even the dumpling pastry is extremely fresh. <br/ <br/ This freshness, however, can be a bit of a drawback as it means that dumplings ordered come out one order at a time and often slowly.<br/ <br/ So, would I recommend Yummy Yummy? Without questions, but I would add that you shouldn't go if you're in a hurry.
