La Marina - The Vale of Glamorgan

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic! I have visited many times before, but I felt compelled to write a review this time. The grilled duck breast was the best I have ever had. The wine list was fantastic and the staff was very attentive. The service was quick and the food was fresh.

On a lovely sunny day, we took a pleasant walk from Cardiff Bay to Penarth and were warmly welcomed at the fantastic La Marina with a touch of Spanish charm. We enjoyed authentic tapas, fresh seafood cooked to perfection, and attentive staff. Our meal was topped off with a romantic stroll back. I highly recommend taking this walk and stopping by La Marina.

The service was the most peculiar aspect of our visit. Instead of traditional table service, customers had to queue to choose their fish, giving it a fish market-like feel. Due to the lack of spacing and queues, we had to send two people from our party to order food to avoid overcrowding. Taking photos of the menu boards, we found that many items listed were not available. This led to confusion and clustering among diners. Upon arrival, there was no one to seat us, leaving us unsure of where to go. The staff appeared rushed and overwhelmed, with one waiter making a sincere effort to improve our evening. Although he offered complimentary coffees and removed the price of the steak from our bill, we were left feeling that the restaurant's approach, even in normal times, was pretentious and unsafe during a pandemic. Overall, we appreciated the waiter's efforts to rectify the situation, but we will not be returning to this establishment.

Food was lovely, staff attentive. Major drawback is the web site says lunch is per person, we did not see the lunch price on display when we queried the lunch we were told its OK' and to order off the day menu. But when...the bill came we were charged per person and were told the lunch price is not available during December. At best, a breakdown in communication ...
