One of the best Southwestern culinary experiences ever.
Very poor service. Took a long time to ask for our order, then forgot about us after we ordered appetizers. Prickly pear margarita was clearly artificially colored and tasted like a mix. Green chili stew was very thick and pasty, like thickened with too much flour. The entrees that other people got looked great, but we left after waiting too long.
The red crunchy bits (red corn chips) on the outside of the rellenos is brilliant! And so delicious inside. The green Chile stew is still #1 in New Mexico (AFAIK), please tell me where it's better than here? And the chocolate ice cream was so incredibly rich and the chorros were amazing and fresh. Always music every night here and no cover charge. A Taos Original iconic legacy.
I was in town and friends wanted to take me to dinner. It had been a very nostalgic visit as I have been on the East Coast taking care of my mother and have been really missing Taos. Having worked at the Taos Inn in the nineties, we choose to go to Doc Martin 's for a trip down memory lane. We weren 't disappointed! With the exception of some questionable lighting additions, Doc 's was otherwise the same warm, familiar place I remember. Our hostess was a former neighbor and she greeted us with happy smiles to start the evening. Our server, whose name I forget, sorry, was divine! He was personable and friendly yet professional. I was happy to see some old favs like the Chili Rellanos were still on the menu and just as delicious as ever. We also tried the Elote dip. Don 't skip this appetizer. It was tasty, cheesy, rich and brilliantly served with chichironnes! Fabulous! I had the tacos with my old favorite Carne Adovado and was not disappointed except that the Carne was no longer served as a stand alone dish. My friends had the Torta and the shrimp dish and were both very happy with their choices. We ended with the Churro desert. I highly recommend that you stop by Doc Martin 's and the Taos Inn if you 're in Taos where there 's still a bit of Old Taos service and atmosphere where the Adobe Bar used to be the Living Room of Taos.
