Obviously a labor of love for the proprietress, who deserves huge kudos for saving and converting a piece of Tainan's history. But...well...with half a dozen customers standing around waiting, it opened 1/2 hour late in the morning; latte was bitter and unappealing, despite its retro-trendy Japanese preparation. It has a real time capsule vibe (wonderful but the place looks like it hasn't been cleaned since the Japanese era (not so wonderful), and don't even get me started on the open air restrooms. You can't help but think, If they'd just close this place for a week and clean, refurbish, and repaint, it'd be the coolest cafe in the country In short, go for the history and ambience, but don't expect impressive coffee or a clean environment.
The nostalgic vibes is great. The coffee is nice, the specialty drink is disappointingly using kinda condensed juice instead of real ones, which makes it taste just too sweet that I even added much water to make it better.
I think the space is gorgeous and historic, perfect for photoshoots and very atmospheric, but the drinks &desserts are very expensive and not that noteworthy. Our juices were both very overly sweet and around 200nt each. It's nice to visit once with some friends but wouldn't regularly come back~ take lots of photos if you go!
As its name implies, Narrow cafe you have too walk through the narrow ally way which is only 38 cm width to get there. Many people went to the wrong cafe on the ground floor right next to the ally way. It's a ancient and historic cafe you can tell from its building and the furniture, BUT I have to say the drinks we ordered were watery and flavorless. The minimum charge is NT$180 per person, the drinks should't taste like that. It's okay just come once, not worth visiting again.
A truly unique caffe in an ideal location. the visit is a definitiw experience. it begins with the entrance that is very hidden by a very narrow entrance. After the treppenauffahrt you will find a very lovingly furnished caffe with many great accessories and a unique view. I had the pleasure to meet owner jessica and talk to her. she is very personal and knows how to treat the guests. prices are somewhat more expensive, but the quality and taste are exceptionally good. I'll be back in a moment.
