Gill Fisheries - Sunderland

After my last google review a few months ago wasn't positive, my most recent visit to this restaurant was excellent. The food has returned to its usual high standard, with not too much grease and perfectly crispy and soft chips. The kebab meat was brilliant this time and not drenched in grease. I highly recommend it, but be aware that this place can be inconsistent at times.

Terrible experience. The fish and chips were lukewarm and clearly not fresh, with a strong fishy smell. After a few bites, I had to throw away the meal because it tasted so bad. I even got sick later that night. The restaurant only accepts cash, which is quite unusual in this day and age. The staff informed me that they have never had a card machine.

I ordered three cod and chips, two curry sauces, and a pensioner's cod fries at the restaurant, and was charged £32.50. When I got home, I realized there were no chips and only two cod fries. I immediately called the restaurant and was rudely spoken to by the assistant who served me. She claimed I had only paid £22.50, even though I know I handed over two £20 notes. This experience has left me disappointed and I will not be returning to this takeaway. I will not be recommending this place to others.

Overpriced undercooked rubbish. Been going there for years but no more. Charge 95pence for a tiny pineapple ring less than 2.5 inches in diameter. Chips hard and reheated. Stay away.

They only do one size of doner kebab with salad and it’s huge. The salad is crisp and fresh, served with a sauce of the choice it’s a very filling meal. Worth putting yourself out.
