Uncle Jakes Restaurant - Steinbach

This is a handy place to eat being in a mall. The service is good, atmosphere relaxing but the food, albeit decent, is quite plain and can become tiresome after a few visits. The price is reasonable and a nice break from fast food joints.

Nothing to look at. However, for the most the quality of the food was good. Service was very good. I thought the value was good. I had the garden pea soup and fish and chips. The soup was fantastic. The Fish & Chips, not so much. The batter was over cooked, but fish was nice and flakey. My coworker had the Liver & Onions, which looked amazing.

The decor is very outdated however the food is really tasty and offers some variety. My favourites include the burgers and fries, soup of the day and daily specials. I find it to be a little pricey overall for a simple restaurant but the food is really good so it is worth it.

Fantastic live and onion special every tuesday, skip the soups they are odd and are full of frozen veg, seems out of a packet.

There are worse places to eat in town, that's not exactly high praise but that's about all I'll give it.The food quality is fairly good, however given the prices you might expect a bit more. They have a salad bar but it doesn't really look like anything special, some pasta salad options, some tossed salad, to me not worth it really but that might just be me. The biggest fault...their drinks, fountain drinks but you have to pay for refills. This to me is ridiculous, this has to be the only place in Steinbach who still charges for refills. Granted the cups you're given are decent size (plastic instead of glass...but we'll just ignore that) but still...paying for refills...who still does that?The burgers (which I had this time) are decent, they won't be competing with some of the other burger places in town, but it's decent. Not quite as much fries as one might expect.It's not a bad place for coffee, if you're shopping it's not bad for a quick bite to eat, but I probably wouldn't go too far out of my way to eat here. Not bad for a cafeteria style diner.
