Bidra med feedbackThis is our favorite spot for date nights. We used to live nearby and visited often, so I'm a bit sad we're not as close anymore. They serve the best mussels in the city, no contest. I recommend the blanc sauce and definitely order extra bread to soak up every bit of it when the mussels are gone. I recently started enjoying oysters, and they're fantastic here too! I believe they fly them in fresh daily, except on Sundays. There are always incredible specials, so make sure to check the chalkboard inside before choosing your meal. It’s also a great place to grab a cocktail—they're fantastic! If the weather is nice, sit outside and soak in the neighborhood vibe. Plus, Clementines is now open next door! Treat yourself to some delicious ice cream after dinner… if you have room left!
The standout dish for me was the clams and mussels; it’s intended as an appetizer, but I found it to be an incredible entrée, with a remarkable white wine sauce. The oysters are also wonderful and fresh, and the nightly specials are usually a hit. On the downside, the homemade gnocchi was a letdown for me — it felt bland and doughy. If you're in the mood for pasta, head over to The Hill. Nonetheless, this place is a great stop for seafood, especially in a landlocked state. A few additional tips: it’s best to make reservations, although the bar has open seating and outdoor options. Keep in mind that the restaurant is quite small.
We made a reservation online ahead of time, which was a good decision given the limited seating. Upon arrival, we went to the bar to wait to be seated, but it took about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Eventually, someone from our group asked for drinks, and we placed our order at the bar, which took over 25 minutes to arrive. The drinks were small and priced at $11 each—perhaps they were concocting something magical in those cups, but who knows? When we were finally seated, we received two different menus: the brunch menu and the regular one. After waiting for a while without anyone coming to take our orders or even serve us water, one of us had to get up and ask which menu was accurate for the day and if we could have some water. We ordered a variety of dishes. For appetizers, we tried the ceviche (refreshing but lacking flavor), the oyster chowder (more brothy than creamy—though the bacon was good, the oysters weren't very tasty), and a dozen oysters on the half shell. The half-shell oysters were delicious, but I wouldn’t say they were worth $3 each (and yes, I’ve had my fair share of oysters). If a group of more than five leaves behind one order of ceviche and one order of chowder mostly untouched, something’s not right. For our main courses, we had the Lt. Dan, which was a fantastic take on shrimp and grits. The shrimp were well-seasoned and spicy, and the grits were excellent. We also tried two po’ boys. I thought the oyster po’ boy was great, though it didn't have a lot of oysters, the ones included were well-cooked and tasty. The fries were also well-seasoned and were possibly my favorite item from the meal. We also ordered the crab cake Benedict (which I couldn’t try due to a crab allergy), but everyone who did try it said it was good. There were several items from the other menu I would have liked to try, but I'm unsure if it's worth going back. While I understand that restaurants can have off days, the lackluster service really affected my experience. I know working on a Saturday isn't always enjoyable, but it felt as though we were dining in a place where the staff didn't want to be there. When you spend a significant amount of money, the service should meet expectations. We may consider giving it another chance since many people rave about the place, but today was quite disappointing.
I stopped by for brunch to enjoy the midday breeze while overlooking the park. DeMun has a very relaxed atmosphere, which really enhances the dining experience. Initially, our server Crystal seemed a bit reserved, but I could tell she had a great personality beneath the surface. Once I broke the ice, she felt like an added member of our table. The Scallops Grits were a huge hit with everyone, so much so that my sister decided to order a dish for herself as well. She even copied my deliciously refreshing Lavender champagne. My nephew couldn't stop raving about the Crab Benedict. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would love to come back for cocktails after work sometime. ~Christy
I rarely do this, but I feel compelled to lower my rating. While the service during my last visit remained friendly and attentive, the food was a major letdown, especially considering the prices. I ordered the mussels and clams in red sauce, which tasted like diluted tomato paste and an excessive amount of salt. It was nearly inedible and quite unpleasant. I also tried the mussels with garlic beurre blanc, which was nothing like the dish I had praised in my previous review—this time it was completely bland. The only highlight of the meal was the scallops served on pork belly; three pieces for $22, which were delicious and nearly justifiable given the cost.
