Bidra med feedbackDespite being served cold the scones are delicious, really fluffy and moist inside. It comes with 2 on a plate with jam snd cream included for $8.20. Coffee cost $4. That is $12.20 for devonshire tea in lovely park surroundings and Overlooking a Serene lake. Other food are really over priced here eg sandwich wrap at $13 which would cost $6-$9 in cbd
What a disappointment.... Having experienced High Tea in other locations one does expect some level of ambient but this place lacks that. The pictures on the website are lovely and no doubt popping in for a quick coffee or light meal one can enjoy the scenery outside but inside it is like a "Coles Cafeteria". We were stuck in a corner of this large "cafe" with a white table cloth and some nice crockery. The food was fine (thank goodness) but they didn't remove the used bread and butter plate once it had been used for hot food having had tomatoe sauce on it and supply us with a fresh one for the cold food. Never offered to refill our coffee after our first cup either. I took my daughter in law there as she hadn't experienced High Tea but how embarrassed was I.... now I have promised to take her somewhere else to have that experience. Ok it was $20.00 cheaper per head than other places I've been too.... so the old saying goes "You only get what you pay for applies"! I did email them and told them of my disappointment and they have offered for us to go back for a free breakfast or lunch anytime. Also another negative was the amount of flies that were inside with us, sitting on our heads,shoulders/food/ table and window next to us all the time we were there. They explained that there is an algae in the pond and that is bringing them inside. GREAT!!!Maybe I was expecting to much but I really thought that we may have been in a more secluded area aside from all the everyday tables ,we were the only ones having high tea that day .
Wanted a quite relaxing day just wandering through the Botanic gardens just the right place to stop for refreshments before moving on.
The Botanic gardens are beautiful and tranquil. The Terrace provides a welcome stop for refreshments in modern, clean surroundings. Food is fresh and tasty although not particularly good value given the prices - for a single visit, it is worth it.
I've been to so many places for high tea but I've got to say, The Terrace rates as one of the best! The table was laid beautifully and ready for us as soon as we walked in. We were offered a beverage immediately and they came quickly soon after being ordered.Just the right amount of time soon thereafter our high tea was brought to us and explanations as to what was on the beautiful tiered plates was given. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING was fresh and beautifully presented. The scones were so light and fluffy and the desserts (something chocolatey and coconut, lemon tart, macaroons with fresh cream omg so delicious I've never had them before like that!) in the top two tiers were absolutely delicious. The savoury items (chicken and avocado sandwiches, egg sandwiches, mini quiches and home made sausage rolls, YUM!) We devoured it all! Next, coffee was offered and it was good! The Terrace was extremely busy today (being Mother's Day) but the service was impeccable. Thank you to our server Rodrigez! The price was extremely fair and kudos to The Terrace for not inflating the prices due to it being Mother's Day. This is one of the reasons why I will definitely be back. The location is also beautiful, being of course in the Royal Botanic Gardens. What more could one want than being served so nicely, being offered an extremely tasty and fresh high tea overlooking the ornamental lake! I so love living in Melbourne!
