Came here for our anniversary. Was really looking forward to the experience due to the menu and previous reviews. First of all, the ambience was super cool. Definitely a fun and easy going vibe. Second, the service was wonderful. Very responsive and happy to explain the menu items. Unfortunately those were the biggest positives. The food left us really disappointed. Got the crispy pork belly appetizer. The glaze on the pork belly didn’t really work for us. Also the scallion pancake underneath was so hard that you could barely cut it was a knife. For entrees we got the burger and the sea bass. The burger was cooked as requested but didn’t come with any lettuce tomato onion. It didn’t say it came with that on the menu, but I would think that’s a relatively standard accompaniment to a burger. Maybe the waiter could’ve asked if that was wanted. The burger was overall just OK. The fries were super yummy reminded us of five guys (that’s a compliment). The sea bass was pretty disappointing. The only taste was on the crust but the rest of the fish was pretty bland. By the end of the meal we didn’t want to risk getting a dessert for concerns it would be as disappointing as the rest of the meal. A final positive, the drinks were pretty solid. Lots of positive reviews so maybe was just an off night, but we won’t be returning.
Good drinks, pricey, but they did an early last call because service was slow. To be honest, I’ve never seen a bar close up early, around 9:30 on a sunday. They had like 3 or 4 tables too.
As always when you want an upscale meal with impeccable service in Somerville, come to Verve, and you'll never be disappointed! After missing Lobsterfest due to illness, I was happily relieved when Rick informed me that there were still a few things available tonight. We started with Lobster Sliders which had just the right enough spice to leave a little tinge on your palate asking for more. The sliders were jam packed with sweet lobster meat! My friend went for the lobster risotto, which was what I would have ordered but since that means if we get the same thing, you can't dig into each others plate. I happily ordered the dry aged strip steak, which was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Served with Parmesan Steak Frites, Haricot Verts, Au Poivre Sauce. When ever I see an Au Poivre sauce I have to get it, it reminds me of being a kid, sneaking bites of my dads meals feeling like I was way older than I was because it was my favorite sauce. Both meals were out standing. The risotto was full of chunks of lobster meat had a tail on top, well with the price. Neither one of us could finish our meals but had to try the fall peach tart, the crust was fabulous the peach pastry cream was neither too sweet or tangy just perfect! Finished up with an expresso martini and we were good to go. Seemed like every table was taken, families, girls nights, date night. Whatever the occasion, everyone was happily chatting enjoying their meals the staff was attentive to everyone as always.
