Butter Whiskey - Saugatuck

It's unfortunate that they still accept reservations on Open Table. When we arrived, we found the place completely empty, the door locked, and the business permanently closed.

We arrived for our 6:00 PM reservation on July 2, 2022, only to find the doors closed with no sign indicating what was happening. It’s puzzling, especially since I received a text confirmation for our reservation the day before. The staff at Bowdies even mentioned that they thought the restaurant had gone out of business.

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. It seems the owners have chosen to move away from the traditional Irish Pub theme, which is evident in the menu that lacks any classic Irish dishes. My husband ordered an Italian sausage sandwich that was just average, and the presentation left much to be desired. On a positive note, the French fries were tasty. I opted for the corn and clam chowder, but it turned out to be mostly carrots and potatoes, with no corn in sight. At least it was served hot. Unfortunately, there was no ambiance to speak of. The bathrooms are located right next to the kitchen, and I found it off-putting that the kitchen door was left open while I was using the ladies' room. Overall, it was not a pleasant dining experience.

Butter Whiskey presents itself as an Irish pub. I ordered fish chips, which should be the menu item they rock. The fish and the fries (chips) were over-cooked in the deep fryer. The fried batter on the fish ranged from dark brown to black. The relatively thick (1/2 x 1/2 in thickness) fries were so over-fried that they snapped. This wasn't a crispy outside and soft, chewy inside. Terrible fish and chips. My wife had a featured burger. So-so. Same overcooked fries. The only thing that was OK was the side of cole slaw. Don't bother.
