Bidra med feedbackI went to this restaurant with great expectations, from reading the reviews, but my experience did not live up to the reviews. Maybe it was a night for the cook. My appetizer, Queensadillas con Carne, was very good, with good guacamole. However, the Mole Poblano was not even close to being authentic. The chicken breast was dry and hard, which is not easy to do. The mole was sweet as if someone said that the chef Mole was made with chocolate, so he added a Hershey Bar. Tortillas were hard. It would be a hard sale to get me back to another dinner.
This place is in the middle of nowhere and we were taken here by an unpleasant Peruvian woman. First it cost us 50 Sol per person all-inclusive, food and drinks allegedly, but then at the door it jumped to 75 Sol per person and they DEMANDED cash in local currency. So we were led up to a simple small terrace bar on the roof. I tried to order an agave tequila margarita without salt, from a girl who could not be older than 13 years old, and became a shot Tequila (not even a lemon or lime wedge brought with him). It was very difficult to understand what a margarita was, but they finally brought a butite had salt on the rim. It tasted more like everything else. I decided to examine the bar situation and see what could be done to get a real margarita to celebrate the new year with and was greeted rudely by a great Fat Dutchman. He was hesitant to free himself from his ass and my inquiries whether they had Agave Tequila or not, were never answered directly, spoiler warning: but they hid it. I asked for a simple margarita on the rock no salt and this guy decided that he wanted to play mixologist and change my order to something else, probably the Peruvian equivalent to a Cadillac Margarita with Grand Marnier. BIG MISTAKE, because that tasted like it had urine in it and I didn't know it at that time, but dark liqueurs don't sit well with me. What a terrible bartender, right? If someone specifically asks for something, it just makes it for them. I did not ask for alternative ideas, and I had planned to drink only Tequila Margaritas, so I could have a big New Year's Eve and not sick the next day, but it was from this man and the unpleasant Peruvian woman who lived here. Anyway, I decided to try again and asked him, BEGGED, to me a simple old margarita with Agaven Tequila, I knew he had a mixer, so I asked if he could make it frozen because I prefer the additional hydrogenation made it available. Success! Or that's what I thought when he overmixed the ice, so it was soup. It split as if I had carried a cosmopolitan that was filled into the bride through a crowded room. After 4 strikes, I was prevented from ordering more Tequila drinks and switching to beer, but at the end of the night they felt the need to calculate me extra for them. My husband had a Pisco Sour, the national drink of Peru he couldn't finish because he said it tasted so terrible. What a joke! They served some basic foods, taquitos, which were very dry, but not bad tasting (I had one), and a variety of other Hordervens that were not big from what I was told by the others in our group. I think they thought they'd give us a great experience and we should be extra grateful to them by paying more money, but no, that was the hands down the worst New Year's place I've ever been. I would never visit this place as a restaurant with my experience. The bartender was a little grouch, the drinks were terrible all around, the food was moderately best and the price they calculated for everything was exaggerated at the end for Peru. The unpleasant Peruvian woman who led us there thought she had a right to tell me the next day and ask for a huge apology. What you did was inappropriate and unprofessional and this additional fee on the way for the 3 beers will be contested because we were never told that drinks were not included over a certain type/number and what usually more than enough for this number of drinks anywhere in Lima and you all know that! It is clear that the group of us you invited paid for every other evening and that is shameful! Stop coraling invaluable Americans to this diving restaurant bar, so the owner can keep them and overload them! This place didn't even have a Malibu rum so easy and it was New Year's Eve! Come on! I cannot recommend this place under any circumstances! At Calle de las Pizzas near Parque Kennedy you will get better food and drinks.
There are two three course Menus for lunchtime Menu Ejecutivo at Soles 29.50 and Menu Light at Soles 26.50. We tried both menus, and they were very tasty and excellent value. The owner is very friendly, and she made everyone in the restaurant feel very welcome. Next time I am in the San Isidro district of Lima, I will certainly return.
Was not very impressed with the food. I grew up in Mexico and cook a lot of Mexican food. This was a sad excuse for Mexican food. It is more of a bar for drinks and the food is kind of an excuse. The name is”Como Agua para Chocolate” and they offer no hot chocolate. Doesn’t make sense having that name, and what Mexican restaurant doesn’t have chocolate caliente on their menu, especially at this cold time of the year in Lima. The chilaquiles we ordered almos had some sauce on them, adically dry chips. Definitely not Mexicans running the place, nor are the owners.
We had been a week traveling throughout Peru and wanted a change of pace. Why not Mexican food? Alejandra greeted us warmly and we enjoyed delicious guacamole and pico de gallo with addictive chips. A truly hospitable environment and delicious entrees. I wish we could return tomorrow! Onno, her spouse, has a Dutch bar upstairs!
