O Palheiro - Santa Cruz Da Graciosa

This restaurant came recommended and we were not disappointed. Simple menu. Ordered a prego especia (special Polo de Caca with steak, egg etc . Prices for dinner and drinks great. Service welcoming. Ok parking outside. Would be a great stop after walking the Levada nearby of visiting the beautiful Palheiro gardens just below.

After walking this stretch of the levada , we decided to have a bite to eat near the bus terminus at the Palheiro Gardens. What a find ! We had beef and mushroom picado with chips and salad along with 2 desserts plus one large and one medium beer. Food was very good . Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. He spoke excellent English. The small restaurant was busy with locals and some tourists. Our bill came to €27.40 . What a bargain . We also had a shot of the local rum when we paid our bill. We will definitely return when we walk the levada again .

This small restaurant, close to the entrance to the famous Palheiro Gardens, offers a small menu with sufficient variety of Portuguese and Regional dishes. Quality of food is superior to similar restaurants and I consider the value for money as second to none! My wife and I live on Madeira and we eat here several times per month. Food quality is consistent and service always relaxed and friendly.

We entered the restaurant to ask for directions to the Levada do Tournos. But decided to have lunch, when we observed the inviting decor. We had a cheese ham omelette with salad and fried octopus with salad and fries. The food was really beatifully ser and the taste excellent. Among the best we have had in Madeira. And not what we expected from a just countryside café restaurant. The staff das really nice and helpful. A great meal.

Loved it. Superb local no nonsense cuisine. Excellent chef and such friendly service Incredible value but don’t expect comfy chairs and fine dining. It’s basic decor with no pretence at being anything else. Wonderful experience with delicious wine recommendations very well worth visiting.
