La casa del balcon - San Gil

I had a couple of very good menu del dia here, and some good coffees while enjoying the views over the main square. They have Wi-Fi too. Recommend.

We were able to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view of the plaza, which is awesome. It's the only street on the plaza that does not have any traffic, so you don't die of carbon monoxide poisoning like the other streets. We had some awesome fruit drinks, empanadas and a nice salad with shredded chicken. The food was great. The server never came back once to check on us. No water. No refill. No more food. No dessert. Nada. We stayed awhile and then paid at the till. There's really never an excuse for poor service.

It seems to rain almost every afternoon in San Gil during this time of the year. It is good to find a place out of the rain and this upstairs cafe was perfect as it overlooks the central park. There are several outside tables and that is where I usually sat (I was there 3 times). The park is a beehive of activity during the early evening hours and the people watching from here is good. Also, the park has a fair number of birds, finches, wrens, fruit bats, to name a few. All were visible from this place. It was the only place I saw the fruit bats...

From breakfast to diner, you can taste local food (empenadas, calbo, .. , enjoy delicious fruits or have a beer at the terrasse overlooking plaza central. Staff very kind and rapid. Take aways also

We had breakfast here and was really good; fruit with cereal, good coffee and banana shake. Overlooking the central square.
