Bi-rite Market - San Francisco

If I ever find myself facing bankruptcy, I’d wager that Bi-Rite would play a significant role in that. I’m tempted to buy everything they offer because nearly all of it is incredible—each item is thoughtfully sourced and made to perfection, from fresh produce to superb meats, seafood, cheeses, and prepared meals. Their sandwiches are outstanding; my current favorites are the hot Roast Beef Sandwich and the Vegan Hippie Sandwich, although that could change on a whim. The desserts are fabulous too, from their famous ice cream that draws long lines to delightful sweet treats in jars; my top pick among them is the strawberry mascarpone pretzel dessert. You can’t go wrong with the prepared food options either, which include delicious salads and consistently excellent empanadas. The only downside to Bi-Rite, as I mentioned earlier, is the steep prices—it’s quite expensive! However, you definitely get your money’s worth. My recommendation is to shop elsewhere for basics like eggs, tortillas, or pasta, and come to Bi-Rite for high-quality prepared foods or special items.

This market is truly delightful! Their selection of cheeses is remarkable, and I appreciate the information about the origins of their produce from local areas. The ice cream is genuinely the best I've ever tasted, featuring unique seasonal flavors that are quite unexpected. Plus, the lines are much shorter here compared to the actual creamery!

Filled with great offerings and a friendly team, especially at the deli counter. Just be alert while waiting in line to check out, or you might get overlooked.

This is a fantastic neighborhood market. The staff is friendly, and they offer excellent produce, meat, poultry, and seafood. While prices are a bit on the higher side, it's what you would expect for such quality.

While BiRite has great produce and local gourmet items that I pay and arm leg for, I have been let down by their deli time time again. The first time I ordered a sandwich in store, it took 15+ minutes with very few people in the shop. Killer sandwich, so I wasn’t too upset. Second time I ordered online, after learning from my first experience, and I was sent to the resister to pick it up after getting texts that my order was ready. I was sent back and forth between the deli and cashier and apparently no sandwich. They somehow missed the order, so there I had another 15 min wait. Now, I’m in the shop again having pre-ordered online and arriving at the suggested time. Deli counter is confused and apparently missed the ticket. So here I am again with another 15 minute wait. There is clearly a pattern, and while I love the sandwiches, this will likely be my last. Bummer
