Michael Farnsworth left a negative review of this place, but to be fair, he ordered a prime rib sandwich on wing night, which is the busiest night of the week. He really set himself up for a bad experience. If you’re looking for the best wings in Rome along with a fantastic atmosphere and top-notch service, this is the place to be! Don’t hesitate to strike up a conversation with the person next to you; they’re usually more than happy to chat. However, if you prefer a quiet drink and a solitary meal while pondering your life choices—like Michael Farnsworth—then you might want to head over to the Applebee’s across the street; you’ll likely have a better experience there. But if you’re after great conversation, a strong drink, and the best wings in Rome, NY, welcome to the ale house!

I visited the Black River Ale House with a friend named Michael Farnsworth. He happily devoured his entire sandwich, was polite to both the bartender and waitress, and didn’t seem to have any complaints. However, he kept getting up to use the restroom and I found it odd how many times he went. I'm puzzled by his review, especially since the wait time for his sandwich was definitely longer than 20 minutes. Plus, it was wing night, so it was pretty surprising that he chose a steak sandwich instead of taking advantage of the 75-cent wings. There’s definitely something off about his choices! If he was expecting fine dining, he should have gone back to Syracuse! Long live the Ale House!

This is a spacious neighborhood bar located in a basement. The interior is quite pleasant, and the staff is friendly. However, the bathrooms leave much to be desired.
